Chapter 15: Fresh Start

I am seated on an unfamiliar couch in an unfamiliar house watching non-fuzzy T.V shows on a big unfamiliar flat screen T.V.

I am at Seth’s house. I actually get to see more of what I saw last night. The house is very big and spacious. I am very uncomfortable here. Not because it’s unfamiliar but because Seth’s youngest half sister Kayla is staring at me with big eyes. Who would’ve thought a seven year old could make you so uncomfortable?

Seth is helping his mother cook in the kitchen and Sophie is on the phone talking to some unknown stranger. Kayla is just staring at me. It’s creepy! She has lighter piercing blue eyes than Seth’s and super light blonde hair.

Sophie looks like an older version of Kayla but with dark brown hair. Their mother however looks old and frail with gorgeous deep blue eyes but with a hint of danger in them, showing you that she is in fact a fire element.

I, on the other hand look completely out of place in this house. With last night’s dress, messy hair and pale blue eyes I stick out like a sore thumb. I sink more into the comfy couch; it’s not like the one at home though. I miss home. My home. Sure I feel safe here but once an angel becomes attached to one place it’s hard to move them.

“You’re pretty.” Kayla says in her cute seven year old voice.

I manage a weak smile “Thank you. So are you.”

She beams at me. Her smile quickly fades as she keeps staring at me. “Angels can’t stand being around new people in new places, right?” She knew a lot more than I thought she would.

“Not always. It just depends if the angel has become attached to certain things.”

“You’re attached to something aren’t you? What is it?” Her big blue eyes blink at me in the most adorable way.

“I am only attached to things that have impacted my life majorly.” I am trying hard not to run out of the room. It’s no longer my angelic-ness that’s making me uneasy. It’s my water element acting up. Water doesn’t like being changed or going in different directions, or when it is pushed in the direction that they do not wish to go down. I don’t want to talk about my ‘issues’ with a seven year old.

“What are they?” She leans closer to me, hoping for an answer.

“Kayla! Do not question our guest like that!” Seth’s mother, Lillian, had just appeared in the doorway.

“Yes mother.” Kayla muttered as she went back to her drawing that was on the table.

“I am sorry about Kayla and her many questions. She is a very curious child. Why don’t you come with me so we can chat?” Lillian turns her attention to me.

I just nod, not wanting to stay with the seven year old Kayla but weary of Lillian, the angry fire element.

We walk down the long hallway and through a door so we are outside, on a porch. The gardens are magnificent, with plenty of blooming flowers arranged neatly into patterns. The porch had a wooden table and chairs placed where the sun could easily reach them.

Lillian gestured for me to sit down and I followed instructions. She sat across from me.

“I see what you do for my son. You make him happy; you make him show his emotions better. When he first went to that school, the change that day was amazing. He was a different person when he came home after meeting you. He may have been a little mad at you for what you did, but no girl has stood up to him before. Especially an angel. We always thought they were scared of him since his father is a high demon. But you aren’t, you accept him.” She smiled at me. “Seth deserves you and I know that he is a nice and charming boy once you get to know him. From what I have seen I know that you two are meant to be together. I will accept you for who you are also Ashley. You need people in your life that will protect you. Here we will all look out for you and protect you. I also know that you will make this family more like a family because an angel’s presence is much welcomed.” Her smile turns into a toothy smile. Her teeth are pristine white.

“What are you saying?” I ask. Honestly I am a little confused. Yes she thinks me being with Seth is good but what else is she saying?

“I want you to come and live with us, here in this house. Now I know that it will be big for you, being attached and all, but we will help you and welcome you in our home.”

“So you want me to stay here with you, Kayla, Sophie and Seth?” I am astonished. Who in their right minds would take a troubled water element, angel hybrid into their home? But she said that I would make everyone happy. Will Seth want me to be in his arms like this? Probably.

“Of course my dear. You are a part of our family know after all.” Her smile was warm. She is nothing like the fire elements I usually come across.

Dinnertime is in a big dining room with a very long table with a porcelain dinner set placed neatly on a table cloth of crimson red.

I sit across from Seth, Lillian at the head on my right and Kayla on my left. Sophie is across from Kayla. We sit in silence as we eat our meal. I can feel the tension like I can feel a hard surface beneath my fingers. I am trying to ignore this urge to run because I don’t want to leave Seth.

Kayla finally breaks the silence by asking me a question. “So are you going to move in with us?”

I freeze and Sophie kicks Kayla from under the table. Lillian scolds Kayla and Sophie while Seth gives me a sad yet hopeful look.

I pick up my fork which I hadn’t realised I dropped. “Yeah. I am going to come live with you, just as long as you don’t ask me so many annoying questions.” My voice isn’t shaky like I thought it would be.

Kayla squeals in delight. Seth beams at me, Sophie gaps at me, probably because nobody has ever said anything quite like what I said and Lillian is smiling at me.

I guess it’s time to let go of my loneliness and broken home to move on to this new family and home. I will finally be able to stay with Seth properly and I won’t have to worry about every scary noise for I have a family to look after me. I guess I am going to be okay in this World of Myth none of you petty little humans can see.
