The Winter Soldier's POV

I woke up, chained to a chair with a sharp pain in my neck. I was in a dark room and the door across from me had a little opening on the top to see through to the other side. It also had a slit in the middle of the door to pass food and such through. I couldn't hear anybody near, which helped me assume I was in a basement. I don't remember what last happened, until I saw her. The (y/h/c) girl with (y/e/c) standing on the other side of the door, inspecting my every move was the one who put me down. I didn't know or remember her but I knew she was my mission from the start. I didn't have anything to say. So I stared back at her.

Nothing.

Silence.

All the hydra thoughts ran through my mind and I became angry at the idea of being chained. I used my strength and the force of my metal arm and broke apart the chains. I pulled out my pistol from my pants and aimed it and your head.

"Mission Complete." I told myself before pulling the trigger.

You didn't even move when I realized,

"No bullets." I scoffed before throwing my left, metal arm through the whole at the door and around her neck.

"Old fashioned it is, doll." I spoke in a deep voice.

"Steve! Help!" You screamed as you lost oxygen.

I smirked before dropping you to the floor awaiting my next victim.

Steve's POV

I allowed (y/n) to be in the basement with him. That was your best friend, as he was mine, but you had never seen this side of him and I knew you would be safe in the basement, considering he was locked with no weapon. I'm glad you called me right after the park incident. Once I picked you two up, we chained him up in the room downstairs and I left you two alone, but I stayed close by the door at all times. Before going downstairs, you allowed me to check your bag and the park for clues on how he may have changed back into the winter soldier. I started looking through your bag before heading off to the park when I noticed a book. I pulled it out, assuming it would be your journal because Bucky informed me that you kept one. Although, it was the book. Hydra's book. Red with a black star.

I was confused but quickly snapped out of my thoughts when I heard you screaming and then silence. I ran downstairs, into the dark basement and grabbed my shield on the way. I saw you unconscious on the floor and checked your pulse. You were still alive. I quickly opened the door to find Bucky in the back corner of the room. I locked the door behind me and walked toward the silhouette.

"Bucky, it's Steve. I need you to calm down."

He turned around and looked me dead in the eyes, "Who the hell is Bucky?" he questioned before throwing a swing at me.

I blocked it with my shield and stepped back, "Your name is James Buchanan Barnes. I'm Steve, your best friend since we were kids, Buck."

"No!" He screamed and threw another punch.

He hit me and I stayed up, already used to his fight. "I'm not going to fight you this time. (y/n) is out there and she will be waiting for the real bucky, the one she knows and learned to love. She is waiting for James not this alter ego that Hydra created."

Bucky pushed me toward the wall and punched again and again and again. After a while, my face was bloody and I didn't sweat it. "I'm with you til the end of the line, pal. You know that, James."

"Shut up!" he yelled and pushed me to the floor and punched me until I could barely breath and all I heard was the door open.

I knew it was you.

(Y/N)'s POV

You heard all the fighting inside the room and walked in with your journal in your back pocket. You closed the door after you and opened the journal, ignoring the two bodies on the floor and the scattered blood stains.

"Dear Diary, It's August 1. My birthday. Today I turn 22. Which means in exactly three months I will be meeting  my best friend, James. He is always there for me even if we are 2,000 miles apart. He still hasn't told me happy birthday but i'm not stressing he's just busy maybe. I know he has a lot of stuff going on since he left the army..." you read from the journal as you took small steps toward him. You managed to keep your eyes on the page, too scared to see the assassin known as the winter soldier, the man who attacked you not only, once at the airport but twice. However, you felt a strong presence in front of you and looked up to meet with ocean blue eyes and messy dark hair. Those eyes were sincere and you felt that he was back.

You reached over to his left arm and he pulled back quickly, "No. I can hurt you."

Or maybe he wasn't back but he was trying to fight through.

"I trust you, Bucky." you traced your fingers up to his shoulders and slowly took off his jacket to reveal the metallic prosthetic where his left arm once was before.

You gently touched it and traced over the design of the red star when he slapped your hand away and grabbed a hold of your neck again.

"Bucky! It's just me, (y/n)!" you managed to speak out, when you saw the darkness leave his eyes as he let you go and walked further back into the room.

You followed close behind him and grabbed his left hand. He tried to pull back but you wouldn't let him.

"Look at me, buck."

He still looked away and you knew he was upset he became his worst fear in front of you and then hurt both of his closest friends.

"James, look at me."

He looked down at you, knowing you would only use his real name when you were serious or upset and at this moment, you were both.

You gave him a soft smile and spoke in a low voice to help him calm down, "I'm okay and Steve will be okay. Trust me." He still looked upset either way.

"Hey..." you gently squeezed his hand before realizing he probably couldn't feel it. You looked back up at him and cupped his face in your hands. "We will get through this. I love you. No matter what, remember?"

He smiled and nodded, "I love you, too."

Although, he said it so lightly, not knowing you used your 'i love you' by its actual meaning and not just as comfort words. You knew he was your guy and you would be able to help him.

He picked you up and hugged you tight as you wrapped your legs around his waist, "I will always be here for you, and nothing you do will ever scare me away... but, you should have told me, so I could be ready and comfort you when you needed me most. I mean, I am a psychologist." you smiled after whispering into his ear.

He was about to speak again when you heard shuffling on the floor and noticed Steve waking up. You let go of Buck and ran over to Steve, "hey, you okay, bud?" you smiled. He nodded and as he was about to ask about Buck, you chuckled,

"Don't worry, Bucky's back. I'll take care of him. But before I do, we better get you cleaned up." you smiled and helped him up, wrapping his arm around your neck for support. You both stood up but before you walked out, you reached out for Bucky's hand as well and you three walked back up into the living room.
