After Allura had restored Shiro's essence and Keith had announced they were heading home to get the blueprints for the Castle of Lions from Pidge's father, they had been travelling across multiple universes to try and get home. They barely had any down time to socialise with each other and when the team talked over the intercom through their lions when they got bored, Lance often stayed out of the conversation. A lot had happened after they left Lotor in the quintessence field but he didn't want to talk about it. He was lost in his own thoughts. While the team talked to Keith about the two years he spent on the space whale, Lance was at war with himself.

He had missed Keith dearly, more than he himself thought, and the first time he had seen him in person, Keith had merely brushed him off, the mission more important than his own friends. Than his own family Lance thought. He was shocked by his own thought. Never before had he realised that he considered Keith his family, but he shook this thought off. Lance was disheartened by Keith's response, not only because he had brushed him off even after he paid Keith a compliment, but because Keith said he didn't have time for Lance. Just like everyone else, nobody cares about me anymore.

Lance had been really down lately. Not only was he trying to get over Allura, and Keith's brush off, but he always felt alone and that nobody wanted to be around him. Allura always pushed him away for obvious reasons, Coran and Lance had never really talked, Shiro's clone made him feel worthless by telling him his opinion never mattered, Keith had left and barely talked with them anymore, and Pidge and Hunk stuck to each other like Lance had stuck to Keith, but Pidge and Hunk always made fun of him. The time that hit him the worst was when Lance was down about Allura, and instead of reassuring him, Hunk and Pidge played out a scene about Allura and Lotor getting married and falling in love. It just hurt more. But what they didn't know was that Lance wasnt only thinking about Allura then, but about how much he missed Keith. How much he had missed his best friend. Keith was the only person he felt comfortable confiding in, the only person who had ever remotely comforted him on the team, and now he was gone, on some mission he could get killed on when he should be here with the team when Lance needed him the most. Lance knew he shouldn't be mad at Keith, he was growing and doing what he had to do to become a better person, but Lance couldn't help but take his anger, of himself not asking Keith to stay, out on Keith.

"LANCE!" Pidge's yell came over the intercom in their helmets. Lance was jerked from his thoughts but slowly grabbed his helmet from off the floor, lazily putting it back on.

"What's the matter?" Lance asked softly looking over to Pidge's lion from Red.

"While you were off day-dreaming about girls, we're about to land on earth!" She teased.

Lance looked in front, the sight of earth almost completely soothing the sting of Pidge's comment. He was so homesick, and so ocean-deprived that he was so overwhelmed when he saw the huge expanses of blue on Earth. He was so emotional and over joyed that he was beginning to tear up, but he held back the tears and smiled wide. All he wanted to fly Red straight to Cuba and not see the team for a few hours, days, or even weeks just because he missed his family so, so much, the only people he felt that right about now would support him and love him, the two emotions he felt deprived from.

But he knew he couldn't just fly off.

They were flying straight to the Garrison to see Mr. Holt, and half the team would already be home in hot Arizona where the Garrison was located. But again, Lance just wanted to go home to Cuba, to Veradera beach.

They soon landed at the Garrison and Pidge has a great family reunion along with Matt whom they had picked up on the way back to Earth. Iverson was shocked to see all of the team alive, including Shiro and Matt, and immediately removed all the missing posters of Lance, Hunk, and Pidge even though Mr. Holt had told Iverson they were all alive. They were told they were presumed dead once again after the incident with Lotor and this made Lance's heart sink. He stormed off, going back outside to Red. He was pissed because this meant his family thought he was dead this entire time, they hadn't a speck of hope he was coming back even after the video diary he had had Mr. Holt deliver to them, and now he wanted to leave Arizona more than ever.

When Lance returned to regroup with the team, Keith gave him some side glances. What made Lance feel worse was that he found out Iverson had confronted Keith, yelling at him about dropping out and his shenanigans while he was in the Garrison including punching other kids- and Lance wasn't there to protect him, to stand up for him, to give Iverson a piece of his mind and tell Iverson that Keith had done more in two years than Iverson has ever done in his life. But Lance wasn't there to protect Keith- he was instead off by himself and angry instead of protecting his best friend. He was ashamed of himself and he again, in his mind, failed.

The team sat in the instructor's lounge, discussing their next course of action. Lance clung to the wall, staying far enough away to where he could hear the conversation and not be a part of the conversation. His hand were in the pockets of his jacket, which he changed into with a fresh set of clothes, a luxury he hadn't had in a while. His eyes were downcast as they talked.

"Me, Matt, and Hunk will stay here to help dad" Pidge declared.

"And me, Coran, and Romelle will stay as well in order to help rebuild the ship since I can use altaen energy and Coran knows the mechanics of the ship" Allura added.

"And I'll be going with Keith and Krolia to their house but will regroup with everyone that's staying here to get my arm re-built." Everyone nodded in response. Keith shifted his weight so he could get a better look at the unusually quiet Lance in the back of the room.

"What about you Lance?" He asked kindly. Everyone's eyes turned to Lance and Lance knew this, but kept his gaze glued to his feet.

"I'm going home as soon as this conversation is over" Lance said, quieter than usual. Keith didn't push him farther and neither did the rest of the team. They all got up and went their separate ways, Lance being the first out the door when the first person moved to get up.

He walked through the halls he once laughed in, the nostalgia hitting him. He was so confused about everything that the only way he felt he could clear his head was to see him family, to reassure them that he wasn't dead. He walked out into the chilly night air and walked towards Red, emptiness and determination somehow coexisting in his heart. Red leaned down and opened his mouth, Lance climbing inside. He and Red took off quickly, Lance setting a route for Veradera. Lance felt even lower than he did before, knowing that nobody had asked if he was okay, why he was so alone, why he was so short in his reply. To him, this just further proved no one cared about him, that he was just as worthless as he always thought he was.

But what Lance didn't know was that Keith had followed him out and had stood by the door, watching Lance wipe his eyes as he ran to Red, not knowing how to comfort him.
