Keith waited a few days after finding the perfect place to go to Lance's room and drag him away from the Castle. It was late at night after everyone was already asleep. Shiro knew what was going on that night and would be able to cover for Keith and Lance if anyone found out they were missing. Keith was dressed in the black top Lance had given him from his house and red shorts. He let himself in to Lance's room and Lance peaked out from around the corner in the bathroom, a towel wrapped around his waist. He had just taken a shower from the looks of it. Keith noticed the chain and key draped around Lance's neck, the key from his old home. He didn't realise that Lance had worn that everyday and a pang of pain reached his heart, reminding him of why he was doing what he was about to do.
"Can I help you?" Lance asked. Keith leaned against the wall and crossed his arms, smiling at Lance as he looked him up and down, soaking in every part of his body.
"Get dressed. We're going out" Keith announced with a smirk.
"Out? Out where?" Lance asked confused.
"Somewhere. It's a surprise" he replied. Lance scrunched his face up in confusion.
"A surprise? Since when are you one for surprises?"
"Just get dressed Lance. I'm taking you out on a date and it's a surprise where we're going."
"A date? We haven't actually-"
"-been on a date yet, I know, so I thought why not take you out on a first date" Keith interrupted. Lance's expression changed again, now looking shocked.
"Okay sure. Anything specific I need to wear?"
"Nope. Just be comfortable" Keith replied with a broad smile. Lance nodded and stepped back in to the bathroom, blow drying his hair and dragging clothes into the bathroom where he could change without Keith seeing him. Keith reached behind him and grabbed the present he had successfully concealed behind his back. Lance walked out in a navy T-shirt and blue jeans. He posed with his hands on his hips and tapped his foot.
"So are you gonna tell me where we're going so late?" Lance asked with a teasing tone. Keith shook his head with a huge grin. He was so excited for what he had planned out tonight.
"I have my first surprise for you though" Keith said and he walked forward, producing Lance with a soft gift wrapped in blue wrapping paper. Lance looked between the gift and Keith as he took the gift hesitantly.
"What is all this? What trick are you playing on me?" Lance asked with a glint of mischievous in his eye.
"No tricks. This is all real" Keith said with a soft smile. Lance kept his gaze for a while but then turned his focus to the medium sized package in his hands. He unwrapped it and as soon as he saw the material, he gasped.
He dropped the wrapping to the floor and pulled out his military green hoodie, the one he had left at his parents house. The blood stains were all gone and the tear in the sleeve was expertly stitched back together. Lance was so happy to see it after he had thought he had lost it that he didn't even have time to think about the horrific event that went along with its absence. He looked at Keith excitedly with a smile and put the jacket on, pulling it close around him.
"Did you fix this?" He asked, looking from sleeve to sleeve and then settling on Keith's gaze.
"Sure did. I was trying to find the right moment to give it back" Keith said with a satisfied look. Lance's smile grew, a smile Keith hadn't seen in a while, and Lance stepped forward. He gave Keith and tight hug.
"Thanks babe" he said softly into Keith ear.
"You're welcome" Keith replied, holding him tightly. Keith pulled away and then laced his hand with Lance's.
