Chapter 9: The fight for the throne

Everyone woke up and packed up their stuff, today they would reach the temple. Geoff and Bridgette packed up the bedding, Gwen packed up food and Duncan was trying to stop Courtney from hyperventilating. "Can't-do-it-I'm-not-ready" "Calm down drama queen you'll be fine." "Fine?! I'll be fine?! I think not! What if they don't except me, what if lady Heather finds us, what if I'm a terrible queen?!" He pulled her into a much needed hug and she slowly calmed down. "You'll be alright." He assured her. She smiled at him. She was so confused. He was so annoying before, but now, she couldn't stop thinking about that kiss. She had never experienced anything like this in her life. Love. But she couldn't admit it. Little did she know, he felt the same way. They were about to leave when they heard the sound of horsehooves. "Gwen!" Somebody shouted in the distance. "Trent?" She said shocked. He jumped off the horse and started talking. "You can't go to the temple. It's an ambush! Lady Heather is planning on killing the princess and taking over!" Gwen gasped, she had a feeling Heather would try something, and she was glad she had some warning. "Thank you." She told Trent, he blushed and mumbled something. "So what do we do now?" Asked Bridgette. "We fight. We distract her while Courtney is crowned queen." Said Gwen, though her voice was filled with uncertainty. Geoff began practicing with his sword, Duncan sharpened his arrows. Gwen had been trained for eons. Bridgette would accompany Courtney. They went on foot, silently. Each one of them kept their eyes peeled and their ears open. They came close to the temple, but didn't go up to it. Gwen would go up as a distraction, then everyone else would join once the enemy came out. Gwen began walking up the stone steps, listening. It didn't take long before Alejandro was behind her, and lady Heather in front. "Where's the princess?" She asked, each word sounding like venom. "I don't plan on telling you." Gwen replied cooly.  Alejandro held his sword up. "You better answer the question." Gwen just rolled her eyes and crossed her arms. Heather was furious. How dare she act this way around her future queen? Alejandro was about to use his sword, when he was kicked from behind, sending him flying into his girlfriend. Geoff let out a battle cry, and it begun. Duncan shot arrows from behind a boulder. Geoff was having an intense battle with Alejandro. Gwen sent spell after spell at Heather, but she wasn't the only one with magical powers. During the commotion, Courtney and Bridgette managed to sneak into the red and gold temple. She walked down a long hall and came upon a large room, with a strange man sitting on a pillar, behind an odd stool. Back to the battle. Geoff and Alejandro weren't evenly matched, and Geoff would be long gone if it weren't for Duncan. Gwen was winning, about to deal the final blow. It's strange, how one can be so focused on something, they can't notice the small things. Like a rock bieng thrown at them. It hit her head, and she fell to the ground, leaving Heather dumbfounded. "Leave my mommy alone!" Yelled the boy, who had carefully aimed his blow. "Ethan?! What are you doing here?!" Heather screeched. "I wanted to help!" He said with a gap toothed smile. Now that Gwen was gone, she could find the princess. "Stay here." She said, putting Ethan safely behind some trees. He frowned, but obeyed. Heather hurried up the steps, hoping the princess was in the temple. Courtney walked up to the man on the pillar. Before she could say anything he spoke in a voice that echoed across the whole room. "Welcome. Princess Courtney, daughter of David and Erika. I've been expecting you." She watched in amazement as the pillar slowly sunk into the ground. He stepped off and cleared his throat. "It appears you have a visitor." Courtney turned around, right before a blast of magic (I don't know how else to word it.) She screamed and ducked. When the smoke cleared, she saw lady Heather walking towards her, an evil smile on her face. Courtney tried to run but was caught in Heather's powers. "You'll be coming with me."
