ohshc clichés and rants

Now, unlike the Hitachiin Triplets stories, I'm actually well versed in "Haruhi having a twin" types of stories. I even had a ex friend who wrote one, so yeah.

I'll preface this rant about how not all stories that have Haruhi with a twin are bad or poorly written. Just as any other cliché mentioned in this book, there are some stories that execute the cliché fairly well that makes the fanfic itself enjoyable! But for other stories... well, not so much.

Haruhi's twin is always mysterious, in ways that even Kyoya can't find any information on them. Which given in the context of his character, doesn't make much sense. Now, I'm not saying Kyoya is this all-knowing being who can easily gain information on everything in world at the snap of his fingers, but he is a very knowledgeable and observant character. If he doesn't know something, you can sure as hell bet he'll do extensive research on the topic he wants to find out about. So, I highly doubt Kyoya wouldn't be able to find zero information about another, let alone Haruhi's twin who shouldn't have any information about them hidden, because they 1) don't have the money to hide any info about themselves and 2) don't have the power to do that shit either.

Another cliché that comes with Haruhi's twin, much like the Hitachiin's poor triplet, is either they are hated or forgotten by others, which leads to #angst when both Haruhi and her twin meet the host club.

I should've said this in the last chapter, and it was brought to my attention by lonelyredrose's Hitachiin Triplets chapter, but hating a sibling isn't... inherently bad itself. There are loads of reason as to why someone could hate their siblings, and hating a family member isn't something to feel awful about if you have a reason to. You're allowed to hate and even cut off a family member, and you're absolutely valid in putting yourself / your mental health before shitty family members! But for the context of stories like the Hitachiin Triplets & even Haruhi's twin, there's really never a reason as to why ? It's never explained to the reader why the twin is hated by others and sometimes even Haruhi herself. That's what I'd like to call a lazy author and a poor excuse for a plot line, but I digress.

The other side to that is when the twin is constantly forgotten by others, mainly the host club. I'm pretty sure we all know how much the host club loves to bother (I mean bother nicely btw I don't believe they actually bother her.... for the most part) Haruhi by this point. And yes, while you can say Haruhi is pretty much at the center of attention for most of the members of the club, I don't downright think the host club would ignore Haruhi's twin. I mean, if you really think about it they pay attention / entertain loads of girls pretty much daily because of the host club, all the boys try their best to make ever girl happy (which is the point of the club), so if anything they wouldn't ignore or forget Haruhi's twin practically every damn scene. One or two scene of them paying attention to Haruhi instead of the twin? I can buy, yeah sure! The whole damn book of them putting Haruhi first and foremost before her twin? Yeah... no. Just no.

There are many more topics I could talk about within this cliché, such as how Haruhi's twin can tell Hikaru and Kaoru apart, or the how Haruhi becomes mischievous out of nowhere now that she has a twin, but I'll save that for a second part.

Also, sidenote about two things :  I'm currently reworking on my own ohshc fanfic (haha shameless self promo) if you could check it out that'd be great! I'm trying to write it with a little as clichés as possible or if it does have a cliché I'm trying to write it fairly good / not piss poorly. I could really use some motivation to update it again, so I guess feedback for it would be wonderful?
And the other sidenote is, I've been thinking about making a ohshc headcanon book, but I don't know if anyone would be interested in reading it, which is the main reason I'm holding back on writing it. If you'd be interested in reading the headcanon book lmk!
