Another few days went by, it was already Tuesday evening, and I didn't understand why time was moving so quickly. I guess it was a good thing, because I would be meeting my soulmate soon, but it was still scary. It's a frightening thing to finally get what you want and not know what to do with it. What was I going to do when I met my soulmate?
Patrick still didn't know what to do with his. Poor Sharla wasn't even sure how to handle him after all this time. Maybe our matches weren't all they were made out to be, after all, the two of them were still struggling to find happiness. They constantly fought, lived in a horrible home, and were swallowed by debt. It wasn't a life that either of them enjoyed, but weren't we supposed to be happy after we met our soulmates?
I pushed up on the bar, trying to focus on my lifting, but it was hard when Patrick was standing behind me complaining. It was hard for me to focus on breathing and focus on his problems. I had to pick one to focus on, and I preferred to focus on not being crushed by the weights. So I kept pumping my arms, up, down, up, down, until my ten reps were finished, then I pushed it back and Patrick helped me set it on the hooks.
"But then when she got home she was all mad! She told me she wasn't mad, but she was! Then, I asked her what was wrong, she told me nothing, and she went to bed. So I went in there to see what was wrong and I tried to kiss her and she got mad and yelled at me! She made me sleep on the couch! Seriously, what did I do wrong?" he continued to rant, barely even pausing to give me the chance to answer.
I used my shirt to wipe off the sweat from my forehead, knowing people would probably stare at the abs that I spent so long working on. "Well, maybe you should try harder to make her happy. Whatever you did to her, she sounds pissed. So when you come home after this maybe you should actually clean up your disgusting mess, and cook her dinner. I'm sure she'll forgive you after that," I answered, getting off of the bench, so I could help him wrack the weights.
"I bet you, if I do all of that, then she'll come home and tell me that she already ate at school. Anything I try is never good enough!" he continued to complain and I realized he really didn't want my help, he only wanted to complain.
We were setting up his weights and I rolled my eyes at him. "Fine then. Go and buy her flowers, or get a movie she's been wanting to see. You know her better than I do. Just try a little harder to make her happy," I answered as he sat down on the bench, readying himself for his lift.
He didn't talk while he lifted, he looked like he was thinking hard, and I wasn't sure if he was concentrating on the workout, or if he was thinking about Sharla. Either way, the silence was refreshing. I doubted he was thinking about her even though he needed to. He needed to try harder to please her, the way he did when they first met. He's given up because things have gotten hard and I'm sure she just wants him to show her that he still cares.
"You know, I bet she won't even come home tonight. For whatever reason she is really mad at me. I don't want her to be mad," he continued as he got up off the bench.
I rolled my eyes at him as I started wracking the weights; at least we were done for the day. "Stop complaining and do something about it then. You can fix it if you just shut up and try. Do you really think that a stubborn girl like Sharla is going to forgive you so easily? No, that's why you two were matched. Because she's stubborn and you usually like a challenge. So go figure out what the heck she wants and shut up," I snapped, feeling grumpy after working out. I wanted to go home and sleep.
He stared at me and I could tell that he was unsure of what to say next. If he complained one more time, then I'd probably punch him in the face and he knew it. "Wow dude. Fine. No need to be a dick about it," he grumbled as he finally came over to help me wrack the weights.

Soulmate
Teen FictionLife was a confusing, stupid concept. We live to meet our soulmates; our timers tick tick tick, we meet our soulmates, we entertain ourselves, and then we die. That's all there is to it. Was I here for something bigger? Well, I sure hoped so, but I...
