Robin was by himself, patrolling the restless city. The icy winter air was stinging his face while the full moon illuminated the top of the buildings-- especially the one he was standing on. Patrol was a way of relieving stress and anger he had built up. Well, the fight with Batman they had a few hours ago about the no-killing rule seemed to blow his fuse. So, he just stormed out of the room and decided to look over the city to take his anger out on criminals. Robin was in a trance of his thoughts. Whilst thinking, he leaped over to a tall building that was next to the highway and a dark alley. There, he was crouching down, overlooking the cars zooming to their destination. He enjoyed the view. The city seemed... relaxing. Then, an abrupt shrill from a woman filled the air and knocked Robin out of his thoughts."How cliche. Of course the crime would be taken place in a dark alley. TT." he muttered, overlooking the dark alley. He saw a woman being pinned to the brick wall at the end of the alley by a well-built man holding a knife to her throat. The woman was clutching her purse as tight as she can and stared directly into him with eyes of horror.
"GIVE ME ALL YOUR MONEY!" the man roared, pressing the knife even harder. Before the man could do more harm, Robin jumped off the roof and stood inches behind the man.
"It's too late for this." he rolled his eyes. Before the robber could react, Robin gave a hard kick to his shins, and watched as the man immediately crumple to the floor. "You're free now," Robin gestured his hands outwards to the open highway, "And don't go into a dark alley." He watched the woman scurry away, still holding onto her purse for dear life. Robin saw her passing a girl who just stood there with a mask covering her nose and down. She wore a dark red hood and a cloak that reached up to her hips. The leggings were as black as midnight and her maroon red boots complemented them. Claps echoed the area.
"Nice one. That was worth the sight," She let her hood down, unveiling dark brown locks that were flowing up until her shoulders. The mysterious girl had piercing grey eyes that were full of wonders. She had the nerve to look directly into Robin's eyes. "Too bad the lady thought that running errands at 12:14 A.M was a good idea." the girl chuckled, making her way to Robin.
"What are y--" He was interrupted by the robber knocking Robin down by pushing him forcefully. It seemed that the criminal awoke from his unconsciousness, wanting to seek revenge. The sudden attack on Robin got him unfocused and his concentration was broken. Quickly, the robber grabbed a crowbar laying on the ground and got ready to strike Robin.
"Not on my watch," the girl held her palms up to the robber. His eyes became wide and dropped the crowbar immediately. Smoke arose from his hands and the weapon. This gave Robin enough time to punch him in the face, knocking the robber out again. "Oo.. that's gonna leave a mark," the girl said with a small smile that was visible with her mask on.
"Like hell I care," Robin gritted his teeth. Boy Wonder reached for the crowbar but was stopped by a hand grabbing his wrist. He looked up to see the girl look at him dead in the eyes.
"I wouldn't touch that if I were you. It's as hot as boiling water."
"Whatever," Robin jerked his wrist away from her grasp and stood straight. "I could have handled it all by myself without your help."
"Mhm.. I'm sure you would. But you seemed a little dazed when he shoved you, Bud."
"Don't call me Bud."
"Fine... Bud."
"I'm serious," Robin said sternly.
"Okay, okay," the girl raised her hands up in an act of surrender. "You're no fun." She peered over Robin's shoulder, seeing the man knocked out. The girl raised her palm again to the unconscious man and made a cage of fire for the robber. "Don't worry," she noticed the look of surprise on Robin's face. "It's going to extinguish by itself by the time the police arrive. Besides, he would've appreciated the heat. It's freezing out here."
"Criminals don't deserve comfort."
"It's not comfort. It's something that will prevent him from dying. But him dying is fine with me. I'm just doing it for you."
Robin looked at the crowbar laying on the floor, still making sizzling sounds. The smoke still rose from it strongly.
"Well, its my cue to leave," the girl opened her palms to the ground and fire started coming out of them, slowly levitating her.
"Wait! Who are you?" Robin questioned.
"You can call me... Blaze." With that last word, she rocketed to the sky and flew away, leaving the smell of smoke in the path she went.
Robin whispered the name to himself.
"Blaze."
