A few days passed after the 'accident'. That's what Damian liked to call it, at least. Helping McLean was an accident. Letting her get to his nerves was an accident. Even meeting her was an accident to him. He hated-- no, despised her. She had no respect for anyone and obviously had no morals or manners. School wasn't getting any better. It was just a waste of time to him and had no significance to his life. 7th period just ended and it was time for him to go to 8th period. It was the only period he was excited for. Not only was it the last period of the day, but it was his favorite class-- art. It helped him relax; and the best part was: there were very little 'popular' and annoying girls in his class.
Damian always passed Brynn when he went to 7th period. But ever since the 'accident', they always avoided each other and pretended that the other person didn't exist-- which really wasn't difficult to do. However, Damian didn't see McLean in the hallways today. He saw her at lunch sitting by herself so why wasn't she in the hallways? Did she go home? Whatever. It doesn't matter. She doesn't matter to him. She never did and she never will.
By the time Damian arrived in class, the bell rang. The teacher was late as usual and he was just moving to his seat when someone caught his eye.
"McLean??" He was surprised to see her sitting on one of the seats, isolated from everyone else. "What are you doing here? You're not even in this class!"
"Why do you care? I'm in this class now and that's all you need to know," she replied raising an eyebrow "Now leave me alone. Your presence here is toxic."
"No. I'm not leaving until you tell me."
"Well I guess you should grab a chair and sit down because I'm never going to tell you."
Damian growled and turned away, stomping to his seat. He was frustrated. McLean was stubborn and it was annoying. He literally never met anyone like her. She was truly one of a kind. (In a bad way of course).
"Hey everyone! I'm sorry I'm late, I just had to run some errands." the voice of the art teacher, Mr. Smith, filled the area. "We have a new student! Her name is Brynn McLean. Be nice to her because it's her first year in Gotham Academy. Anyways, you guys keep on working on the painting. I have to print things for our next project which I will explain when I get back."
No one paid any attention to Mr. Smith but that didn't matter. Damian pulled out his half-finished painting from his shelf, and started to work on it. His angry and vicious strokes ruined the calm and serene atmosphere of the painting.
"Arugh!" he slammed his paintbrush onto the floor, splattering a pastel blue around his shoes. Sighing and picking it up, Damian stole a glance of McLean who was working quite peacefully. She just started her piece today, and there was already a good amount of work done. McLean calmly mixed some yellow with some white and started to dab on the canvas. He couldn't see what the full painting looked like because she was at an angle which prevented him from seeing anymore than her paintbrush.
"I'm back!" Mr. Smith beamed. "Alright now, everyone pay attention to your next project! You can finish the painting in your free time."
The room went quiet. Everyone was listening intently to Mr. Smith.
"So basically, this is a partner project..."
There were cheers and claps from all around the room. It didn't last long though.
"I will be choosing your partners." the teacher continued.
Now, there were boos and groans. How pathetic Damian thought.
"This project is about portraying your character and how you are unique. You and your partner will somehow represent how different you are."
More boos and groans.
"It's all due in 2 weeks. It shouldn't take too long."
"Why the hell does it have to be a partner project?!" Damian grumbled.
Mr. Smith started to call out the partners. "Veronica and JD, Evan and Connor, Jeremy and Michael, John and Charlie, Damian and... Brynn."
Damian couldn't hear the rest of the names after the teacher said his partner. There were 28 people in his art class excluding him and McLean. Out of all of them, he just had to be partners with the person he hates. Fate is kind of funny that way.
"I'm not excited either," Brynn said as she walked towards his seat.
"No one asked for your opinion." Damian snapped.
"Let's just make this quick. It's too early in the school year for me to be already loosing my sanity."
"Aha very funny. That was so funny, I almost forgot to laugh."
"You sound like you get your comebacks from the internet." Brynn smirked.
"Shut up, McLean."
"At least I'm honest."
Damian rolled his eyes. "Just come to my house on Sunday. Today is Friday anyways, so Sunday is the perfect time."
"Why not Saturday?"
"None of your business."
Brynn raised her hands up. "Jeez, sorry."
"Apology not accepted."
After Damian said that last word, the bell rang as a signal that school ended for the week. Thank God.
