Lyra's P.O.V
At the hospital~
Beads of sweat trailed down my back as I nervously waited for the doctor to come out of the ICU room. Liam paced around in the small empty space as the tension in the air became tighter, and with every second passing, the air was getting sucked out from my lungs.
Half an hour later, we heard the doors of the room sliding open, and both of us rushed to the doctor, anxiously waiting for his results. Liam's arm was around my shoulder, giving it a tight squeeze but I could feel him trembling.
"How is she?" My brother asked worriedly, the nervousness showing in his eyes as both of us desperately waited for the doctor's answer.
He let out a deep sigh, taking out his glasses to read the results from his clipboard he had in his hand.
"Well, according to the results, she's good, for now." He peered closer to the clipboard, his eyes checking the results carefully.
"Thank god."Both of us let out a sigh of relief, and immediately I felt the air returning into my lungs as my eyes brimmed with tears. I felt Liam's lips on my forehead, giving me a reassuring kiss as he held me closer to him, this time tighter than before.
"But." The doctor interrupted us, and my stomach churned.
"It's better that if she gets surgery as soon as possible as I can't make sure that this won't happen again. She doesn't have much time left." He explained, peering at us through his glasses.
"Good luck son. You can go in and visit her now." He gave us a grim nod, as he placed his hand on Liam's shoulder, patting it before he walked off, the sound of his shoes clicking against the floor.
Both of lurched forwards to the door, desperately scanning the room for her as our eyes settled on the familiar person at the end of the room. As we got closer, my eyes brimmed with tears as she laid on the hospital bed, looking so lifeless. But despite everything, her face lit up, wearing a smile as she saw us.
"Mom." I choked out, running to her bed side and hugged her. The tears slipped from my eyes as I hugged my mom even tighter, feeling all the fear that had settled in my stomach disappear as I inhaled her familiar scent, calming down.
"Honey, let go. You're crushing me." She choked out, and reluctantly I let go with a small smile. I missed the way she called me that.
I wiped away the remaining tears as I glanced at my mom, taking a good look at her for once. Her face was so sullen, and ghastly, missing all the shine she once had before but faintly I could still find the spirit in her eyes that she always had.
"Why are you crying for? It's not like I'm dying." She rolled her eyes at me, cupping my face. I sniffed, a smile making a way to my face. At least she still had that attitude that I loved.
Her eyes traveled to Liam who was standing gloomily beside her, his eyes filled with sadness as she gave him a smile.
"Come here you." She sighed, opening her arms to Liam, who he gladly opened his back hugging her tightly. As he pulled back, she smiled, stroking his cheek.
"Wow, you guys grow fast." She mumbled, shifting herself so she was leaning against the bed frame. Liam and I tried to help but she held a hand up, making us back off. She looked at us, taking in our appearances as she smiled happily to herself.
"Look at you two, you guys look identical to me now." She gasped, making Liam and I exchanged glances. Both of us engulfed her in a big hug and she squealed, tapping both of our back to make us let her go.
