Turtle!
Any way you guys could come home sooner? This week has been a rough one, and we are running out of projects to keep Mel's mind off Ralph, not that we were doing a good job with that anyway.
I'm really worried about her, Grant. I'm worried about all of us. With Mel tense, the pack is short-tempered and nervous all the time. The only time anything is normal is during Susie's lessons, which we've all begun to sit in on. I think it's the only time anyone sits still anymore.
We finished all the ramps and cabinets and countertops; anything that we would need to bring him home. Mel and Keith finished the new bathroom this morning; I don't think she's sleeping at night. She's up when I get there in the morning, and I realized today that the pack has finished breakfast by six now. That's not enough sleep for anyone, especially when we're working late into the night.
Sorry for the bad news, but I don't know what to do, or who to call. Maybe, if you get news on when you'll be here, then you can have Ralph call? If he doesn't know, then don't call at all. No news is far better than an unknown return trip date.
And thanks for looking out for Conor. Mel can't even think about him right now in her worry for Ralph, but I know that she would be just as devastated if something happened to him.
I took your advice and looked for history games online. There are whole forums of history teachers in my same boat. This is a boring subject, and it is hard to make it interesting. I'm at least in good company, and they have some great ideas. Everyone's favorite class was Daria's until she and Casey teamed up to talk about checking accounts, lines of credit and other financial things: the less tasty side of home economics. Casey convinced Mel to show us the books for the farm, and now we've all been learning to itemize and track spending. It's probably good because we're splitting up the farm's responsibilities, but I hadn't expected to spend my winter in a sixth grader's class. Susie told me today that she's glad we've continued classes even though she should be on the winter break because then we're all together for a little bit. I hate that she's had to grow up so fast this year, what with being turned, being expelled and now Ralph being hurt.
Stay safe. I love you,
Aidan
