On the 30th of August, Jenny arrived at Hogwarts, with a few of her belongings, that she planned to put in her room. She held the Marauders Map in one hand, as she began to navigate the castle.
Jenny had been told that her bedroom could be accessed through the Defense Against the Dark Arts classroom. She tried to follow the corridors on the map, but Hogwarts appeared to be one big maze. With staircases that moved, which Jenny thought wasn't very helpful.
Without the Marauders Map, she would never have found the room, and Jenny wondered how first years found their way around, without a map.

Her new bedroom was simple, but luckily she was used to staying in a small room, as she spent a lot of time in her London apartment the year before. Jenny hadn't brought all of her belongings, as she planned to do that the next day, with Charlie's help.
As she began to explore the rest of the castle, Jenny found all of the others classrooms, and even managed to find the house dormatries, with the help of the map. Although she couldn't enter them as she didn't know the passwords.
Even the Fat Lady wouldn't let her into the Griffindor common room, despite the fact that Jenny was now the Head of Griffindor house. The Fat Lady claimed that she needed permission from McGonagall, which would happen the next day. So Jenny sighed, and moved on.

As Jenny turned the corner, heading towards the Great Hall, she bumped into a man coming the other way, falling to the ground.
"Ow!" Moaned Jenny, as she pushed herself up off the floor.
"I'm so sorry. Please forgive me, I wasn't looking where I was going" apologised the man.
"Who are you?" Quizzed Jenny suspiciously.
"My name is Alec Wilde. I'm the new Transfiguration teacher"
"You do know that you aren't needed until tomorrow"
"Yes. But I wanted to come a day early to get my barrings. I assume that's why you are here as well".

Jenny nodded and held her hand, which Alec shook gently.
"I'm Jenny Potter. Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher" explained Jenny.
"Well it's lovely to meet you Miss Potter. At least I will know one person in the staff meeting tomorrow" replied Alec.
"Haven't you met Minerva McGonagall?"
"The Head? Yeah, I met her once, for my interview. But we didn't really have time for an informal chat afterwards"
"Makes sense. Minerva was very busy trying to get the school working again at the time"
"Ah. That explains it. Yes, she did look rather pre-occupied... And scary".

Jenny laughed. "She's not that bad once you get used to her".
"I see. Did she teach you here?" Asked Alec.
"Err. No, I didn't go to Hogwarts. Did you?"
"No. My parents sent me to Durmstrang.
Let me guess, a pretty girl like you went to Beauxbatons".
Jenny blushed. "Wrong again. My parents home-schooled me".
"Really? I didn't think many parents did that" replied Alec.
"Well, my parents were old, and didn't work. So they decided to home-school me"
"Well that explains why you are looking around the castle a day early"
"I've been here a few times before. But I never really had time to explore the place".

"What's that?" Questioned Alec, as he bent down to pick up the Marauders Map.
"Err nothing" replied Jenny quickly, as she tried to take it back.
"It looks like a map of Hogwarts" he continued, holding it out of reach.
Jenny snatched the map back, and placed it into her pocket.
"You're right. It's a map" Jenny answered.
"I didn't know there were maps of Hogwarts" replied Alec curiously.
"It's very rare"
"That explains why you are so possessive of it"
"I'm not"
"Yes you are. You practically ripped it out of my hands"
"Well, that's because it means a lot to me... My brother made it".

"Ah. I'm sorry" apologised Alec.
"I assume you know about everything that went on in England, while you were in Durmstrang?" Quizzed Jenny. Who was anxious to know how much Alex knew about her family history.
"I didn't teach at Durmstrang. I just studied there"
"Then what have you been doing since you left school?"
"Well, my parents left me some money before they died, so I've been travelling"
"Travelling?"
"Yeah"
"So, you don't know anything about Voldemort or the Death Eaters?"
"I know some things. And I've been trying to read up on his most recent take over, in the past few weeks".

"I see. You have heard of Harry Potter though?" Asked Jenny cautiously.
"Of course. The boy who lived is famous all around the world" answered Alec.
"O.K. I was just checking... Anyway, I need to get back to my room. I've got some packing to do"
"Alright. I'll see you around Jenny"
"You too Alec".
Alec walked passed Jenny but turned back around, before he reached the end of the corridor.
"Oh. And by the way. Congratulations" said Alec.
"For what?" Questioned Jenny.
Alec lifted up his left and and pointed to his wedding finger with his right hand.
Jenny looked down at her engagement ring, then started to explain. But when she looked up, Alec had gone.

Jenny removed the Marauders Map, and searched for Alec. But he was no where to be found.
As you couldn't apparate within Hogwarts, and being invisible doesn't hide you on the map, he should have been there. His absence explained why they had crashed into each other earlier. Jenny had been checking the map closely, so she shouldv'e seen him approaching.
But she hadn't.
The Marauders map showed everything from; animals, and ghosts , to classrooms and secret passagways. So if Alec wasn't on it. Then what was he?
