The next day I set out I look for them.
It has been five days since I saw them in that old grocery store. And ever since then I have been thinking about them constantly.
Where are they?
Do they sometimes think of me?
Are they alright?
Did that boy's leg heal properly?
And the girl that named me... why did she do that?
Why do I need a name?
And why Hannah?
And for all the years that I have been "alive", I have never seen anything like that girl's smile.

I walk, taking in the scenery. I'm in some kind of field, there are immensely faded white lines running across it. And at each end are two nets that are tipped over and broken. I study the place, wondering where I am. I raise my head and look at the brilliant sunset, oranges and reds spread far like open arms. The sun, like a small dollop of honey, rests on the mountains. And a word comes to me, "Beautiful."
I sit, watching the sun go down and the moon come up.
Deep in thought, I hear someone shout the name that I was given. I turn my and smile.
"Hello," I whisper. My voice ending up a lot weaker than I wanted it to be.
The other girl and the boy watch me as the small girl smiles back. I stand.
"Hannah did you see the sunset? Wasn't it amazing?!" She asks her smile growing, exposing the large gap in between her two front teeth.
And there's my name again, said by that little girl.
I struggle to find words. I look at the other two children. The boy has the same look that he had when I saw him five days ago. Pure hatred. And holds his wounded leg slightly above the ground, careful to not put pressure on it.
The juxtaposition of him and that small girl are outstanding.
After a while, I nod, "Yes it was." I raise my head, "Last time we met I didn't catch your name."
After a long silence the girl pipes up. "I'm Mimi, he's George she's Layla." Mimi says.
"Mimi don't tell it our names." George says bitterly.
"George! That's mean, call Hannah by her name."
"It doesn't have a gender! Stop saying she! And why did you name it in the first place?!" George shouts with fists in tight balls.
"She was nice to us why are you being mean to her?!"
"Because she, it, destroyed our homes! The ones we love! That can't be forgotten!"
I step in between the two of them before they can go on. "Please stop." I say, looking at both of them. And they do, George's mouth shuts and Mimi looks at me. Once again George is about to protest when Layla puts a firm hand on his shoulder. He turns around to look at her, frowning he straightens his posture. Then turns and starts to walk away. I look at Layla who watches George. Mimi looks at both of us before running after him.
"You lost your family?" I ask.
Her head does not turn to me and she doesn't speak.
"I guess that would hurt, I understand why he's so angry."
She sighs, looking down.
"We owned a farm, one day when we where out in the fields we herd screaming coming from the house, we ran, but it was too late. Ma and Pa were being killed by robots and we could do nothing, just watch." She snifes then looks up at me with her teary eyes, "We saw them die Hannah. We held their blood in our hands." She pauses taking a deep breath and looks down. "After that he was never the same, he told me that he wanted to find the base of the robots and destroy it. I tried to convince him otherwise but he won't listen to me. I'm afraid that one day I'm going to wake up and find that he's gone, and isn't coming back. I don't want to loose him too."
I look away, "Do you want him to kill us?" I ask plainly.
She shakes her head smiling slightly, "I have always hoped that we could get along, that we could fight together, that's what your kind was made for right? It's a dumb dream, at least that is what I thought. But when I saw you that day, I looked into your eyes, of course they're the same gray as all the other ones, but your eyes have emotions that only humans have, so I think that maybe my dream isn't as crazy as I thought." She laughs.
I look at her, she has the same dream that I have. "No it's not crazy, it's just impossible."
She sighs, "Yeah your probably right, but it's always good to have hope. Especially now."
I turn around as I hear footsteps, Mimi walks towards us.
"He told me to leave him alone." She says quietly frowning.
Layla looks at her brother who lays on the grass field.
"Can I go talk to him?" I ask.
"He won't listen to you." She replies.
"That's okay." I say and walk to George, he does not raise his head when he hears me coming.
"Did she already tell you our backstory?"
"Yes."
"Humph." He scoffs tilting his head away from me.
I lay down next to him sighing and looking up at the dark, starlit sky. "It's so beautiful tonight."
His head turns to me and he stares.
"I have always loved to lay down and look at the stars. I wonder, sometimes if there is another world up there somewhere, where things are better then they are here. And even if we could go there, we need to stay here to fix the problems we have all made. To some people, the solution might be to kill me and everyone else like me, and to others it may be to try to make peace with humans and robots. Whichever path we take, we follow it to the end, and no one can change that."
I look at him, and our eyes meet. "We follow it to the end." He says in a whisper.
Author: Wow that chapter is really long! Tell me if you think it's too long. I do really like this chapter though because it shows the backstory of some of the characters! Like always like comment, tell me what you think! Thanks!
