Y'all ready for some nice angst?

Lapis POV.

Peridot suddenly froze, and I turned to see the man again, looking at me and saying something angrily. I furrowed my brows and turned back to peridot, who was angrily signing and gritting her teeth.

I stopped to make out a few words.

'She is staying'

I turned back to see rose, gripping one of her arms, also tense. The man stepped forward and held out his hand, an annoyed look on his face.

Peridot slapped his hand away, her other hand on my shoulder.

"Peridot what's happening..." I said worriedly, looking back at her. She heard me, because she glanced down, but she just looked back at the man.

Rose came up behind him, trying to explain something nervously. He rolled his eyes, pulling his hand away and pointing an angry finger at rose before storming out.

I looked at both of them, peridot relaxing and pressing her head into my shoulder for a second. I didn't mind, but rose began signing.

'I think this would be better explained by a friend, lapis. I'm sorry this must be so confusing.' She gave a sympathetic look, and I swear I even saw her eye tear up, but she left before I could do anything.

I suddenly realized peridot was shaking, her forehead pressed harder against my shoulder.

"Peri...?"

Peridot POV.

This can't be happening... no... I can't lose her too...

I was crying. Shaking and pressing my head against her shoulder, while thinking of how I hated everything.

Everything but lapis.

Why did everything I care about get taken away?

What was wrong with Lapis? Just because of some stupid test... just because of all the places she's been and the "behavior" she displayed, they were gonna take her from me.

"Peri...?" Her soft voice broke me from my thoughts, and I lifted my head a bit. I moved back, signing sorry slowly before letting my hands drop.

I felt her her hands cup my face, a distraught look on her face as she wiped my tears away. "Peri what just happened... why are you crying?"

'They want to take you away... that idiot said you were mentelly unstable. I don't want you to leave.'

I felt more tears stream down my cheeks, as lapis's hands lightly slid down and away.

For a moment I thought she'd left, but I suddenly felt her arms wrap around my torso instead, and she pulled me into a hug.

"Peri don't cry... it's okay..."

I just pressed my head harder into her shoulder. I shook my head a bit, trying to wipe the stupid tears away.

About ten minutes later, they had stopped, and I pulled back, looking at her with determination and anger.

'Its not fair. You aren't crazy.'

She didn't say or sign anything back.

'You can't leave. I'd miss you.'

She looked into my eyes, and I fell all over again, wanting to melt into her soft gaze.

She gave a small smile. "I don't want to leave you either. But it's not up to us, peridot. It never is. We're kids to them."

I turned away, clenching my fists. I hate adults. They leave you, the don't care, and right when you start to feel somewhat normal they rip that away from you in the cruelest way.

But I paused.

What if they CAN'T take lapis away?

I turned back, poking her shoulder. She looks up, burrowing her brows, confused at my excitement.

'What if we run away?'

She blinks, reeling back slightly. "What?"

'He said he was coming back tomarrow. We could leave tonight, be free for the first time in our lives. And we don't have to do it alone.'

Her mouth stayed slightly open, and she looked down for a second in thought. I was discouraged, but she looked back up with a smirk.

"There's no one I'd rather do this with. You did learn how to be a little more open, huh?" She chuckled a bit, smiling.

I smiled back, and she hopped off the bed, scurrying over to her bed and reaching under, pulling out two smallish backpacks that were flattened and slightly bent.

"I've had my fair share of bags, some I saved. You'll need to get anything you want to take with you. I know you don't have much but..."

I took the bag, smiling, and going over and reaching under my bed and pulling out a cardboard box, and opening it.

I smirked and signed to her. 'I have plenty of cheap beef jerky to last us awhile.'

She slapped her hand over her mouth, and stood up.

"Lets do this."
