1 years later...
Mark snuggled closer to Jackson. They were currently in Jackson's room, on his bed.
Most people who saw them often thought that they were gay but to them this was normal for best friends. Holding hands, cuddling and kissing on the cheek and forehead were all normal.
They, well more like Jackson, we're watching a movie. Their parents were downstairs quarreling loudly for the 5th time this week. It seemed like they were saying something important so the boys being well-mannered decided to put on a movie to drown it out. Mark was thinking deeply.
Don't tell anyone but Mark was gay. The only people who knew were his parents since they supported LGBTQ+. No-one else knew, not even Jackson, his best friend. He was scared that Jackson was homophobic like his parents. But moreover he was scared because he had a tiny crush on him.
He could clearly remember when this started. It was the day of his 11th birthday, when he and Jackson danced and had fun at the party. Jackson was always so kind to Mark. He was always there for him since kindergarten. Mark smiled at the thought. Plus Jackson was funny. He remembered all the times Jackson made him laugh. He was also very very handsome. Mark had started to stare at Jackson examining his features. He was mesmerized by everything about the younger. He was so whipped.
"Mark. Earth to Mark! Are you okay?"
"Hmm? Yeah I'm fine." Mark was thinking so hard that he forgot that he was staring. He blushed a deep crimson.
"What you thinking about? You seem stressed. That's not good for you hyung?"
Mark sighed. He was gonna tell Jackson. He couldn't keep it in anymore. He just had to.
"JackJack? Remember how you promised you'd never hate me?"
"Of course. Why?"
"Do you... uh... Do you ha-hate gay people?" Mark winced at his stutter. He probably sounded scared, well he was.
"No. Of course not! That's just my mom. I think everyone should be able to love whoever you want. Plus, if we're talking about gay people, I guess I'm pansexual." Jackson shrugged nonchalantly.
Mark took a while to process this new information. Jackson. Was. Not. Homophobic.
He. Liked. Boys. Too.
Mark smiled, relieved. "Well, I'm gay."
Jackson smiled back at him. "Cool." he said before turning back to the movie.
Now, Mark needed to figure out how to confess. Eh. He'd just wing it. It'll be fine.
"Jackson? You're not gonna hate me right?"
"Of course not! I promised. Why do you keep asking?" Jackson looked at him confusedly.
"Good." Mark whispered to himself. He spun around and carefully pressed his lips onto Jackson's.
It only lasted for a few seconds and it was an innocent, chaste kiss.
He pulled away blushing harder than he was before. Even Jackson was blushing now. He looked dazed and stared at Mark.
"Well. I might as well as say it now. I like you Jackson. I hope that this doesn't mess our friendship up. But I've liked you for a while now. I'm sorry for keeping my sexuality away from you. I thought that you were homophobic. You've always been here for me since I was in kindergarten. I'm sorry for risking our friendship like this but I couldn't keep it in any longer." Mark looked down.
But Jackson was quick to push his chin up. "Mark, as cliché as this may sound, I like you too. We've always been best friends for as long as I can remember. We've made about 9 promises to each other and I would never break them, even if my life depended on it. That's how important you and our promises are to me."
Mark smiled and straddled Jackson swinging his arms around his neck. "I like you a lot." He kissed him gently but Jackson pulled away. "I like you more." He said before joining their lips once more.
It wasn't until a few minutes later that they realized that it was very quiet downstairs. It seemed like their parents had calmed down.
Before they knew it, the door to Jackson's room swung open and Mrs. Wang barged in.
Mark was lucky that he had gotten off of Jackson's lap earlier or Jackson's mom would have exploded.
Sofia looked very red and angry. "Jackson! Pack up immediately, we're leaving this damn country and going back to China!"
Jackson and Mark gasped in sync. "Excuse me-me , aunty but can Jackson and I-i talk? Ple-please?"
She quickly glanced at Mark with hatred in her eyes but it dimmed a little since she always had a soft spot for the boy. She spun on her heel and slammed the door. "Be quick!"
Mark immediately burst into tears. "Be quiet, don't cry. It's okay. Maybe she's overreacting? Maybe I could come back when I'm 18?"
But Mark only cried harder. "It's no-no use, Jackson. Just prom-promise me-me that if-if you leave you'll never for-forget me."
Jackson started to tear up also. "I-i promise." He choked back tears but they flowed anyway. He kissed Mark one last time before cuddling until his mom came in again.
