Chapter 5- Thinking

Finn's POV

I wake up to a blazing ringing in my ear. The high pitched frequency blazing my ear drums. Definitely not the first thing I wanna hear when I wake up. It doesn't stop, it just keeps repeating. I turn towards my phone to see that Millie is facetiming me. The edges of my lips come up to be a slight grin. I answer the facetime call.

"Hey, Mills!" I said, smiling, being completely oblivious to the black eye that Nick gave me. "Last night was super fun, I- why are you making that face, Mills?" I asked, confused because her jaw was dropped, leaving her mouth wide open, looking shocked.

Millie's POV

I am looking at Finn, just through a phone screen, but I can see something isn't right. "Finn what happened to your face?!" I said.

"What do you mean?" Nothing is wrong with my-" He stops. Remembering something. "Shit, Millie, I-"

"Finn! What did he do?! I asked you how it went and you said it went fine, and now you're facetiming me with a black eye!" I yelled. Why would he lie about that?

"Millie! I was worried that you would tell me that we shouldn't date anymore because you were worried that Nick would do this again. You just care so much about me, and I knew that you would say something like that. I just like you so much and I didn't wanna risk not going out with you again." Finn continued, slowly calming down.

Him saying all of this caused my cheeks to turn a rosy red. I didn't know he cared so much for me. I mean, I knew he liked me, but not to that extent. I feel bad for yelling...

"Finn I like you a lot too, and you know that. But I can't just keep letting you get beat up over me! I don't want you to get more hurt than you already are." I say, my voice becoming more and more upset.

"And that's what I was afraid of, Mills."

"Well what did you expect to do? Just hide away from me for a week and a half, while your eye heals? I couldn't stand being away from my best f- you, for a week and a half!" I continued.

"I don't know Millie. I'm sorry, okay. I gotta go." Then he hung up the phone.

I didn't know what to do. I had to think, but it was hard for me to think in my room today, because Charlie, Ava, and Paige were downstairs playing a game, very loudly. So I went to the only place I could think of. The treehouse.

I ran to the treehouse, retracing Finn and my steps from the night before, thinking about how amazing it was. The moon was full that night and I could see it beaming off of his chocolate brown eyes. Though, the thought of that night made me tear up. Thinking about how Finn going out with me, caused him to get hurt. Bad.

I climbed up the ladder, sniffling, but as soon as I got up to the rickety wooden house, I saw him. That tall figure, with that beautiful dark curly hair. He told me he had gone to think too.

"I always come here when I need to think." He told me. "It helps me escape reality. Escape my brother and everything that has to do with him. When I come here, all I can do is think about you. Because this is our place."

That caused the edges of my lips to perk up in a small smile, coming through the tears.

"Finn I-" I'm interrupted by his soft lips touching mine. It was light, but you could tell he meant it. He seriously cared. We came apart from the kiss and I didn't need to look to know that he was smiling. I was too.

Finn's POV

I just kissed Millie. Millie kissed me back. This just made me fall more in love with her. Wait? Did I just say I was in love with her? I think I did. The thought of that made me smile.

"What?" Millie asked me. You could hear her smile in her voice.

"Huh?" She kinda shocked me because I was just sitting there in the silence, thinking.

"You're smiling." She said smiling back at me.

"Oh. Sorry I was just thinking about...stuff." I take a moment to pause, thinking about what I'm gonna say. "I'm sorry that I lied about Nick. I just didn't want you to worry about me." I said tearing up.

"It's okay, Finn. But I-" She gets interrupted by her phone buzzing. "Ugh hold on... I got a text." I nod. She checks her phone and rolls her eyes. "It's Paige... She says I need to be home to babysit Ava because Charlie went out with Becca and Paige has to go get groceries." She groaned.

"Okay. Text me though, ok?" She nods, and we both leave the treehouse.

We arrive at the fence between our houses. "Bye Finnlard." Millie smiles.

"Bye Mills." I climb up the fence, to the pipe and into my room. I lay on my bed, but then I hear a knock on my door.

"Come in," I answer.

"Where'd you go?" Nick asks walking closer to me causing me to back up farther onto my bed.

"To the treehouse." I respond abruptly, not wanting to continue the conversation any further.

"Did you go with Millie?" Nick asks, looking more and more angry by the second.

"No. I didn't go with her. She was already there." I responded. Why would I tell him that!? I knew he would automatically assume we planned it that way. Stupid, stupid, stupid.

"So you were with her huh? I thought I told you to stay away from her! Why don't you listen to me Finn? Why?"

"BECAUSE I LOVE HER NICK!" I scream, biting back on my words as he gets closer and closer to my face.

"Love? At your age? Finn, loving someone at 16 means absolutely nothing! She's only gonna break your heart and you're way too young for that shit."

"HOW IS SHE GONNA BREAK MY HEART NICK? WE'VE BEEN BEST FRIENDS FOR 8 YEARS AND NOW THAT IT'S GROWING INTO MORE I HAVE TO STAY AWAY? IF ANYONE IS BREAKING MY HEART IT'S YOU!" I screamed.

Nick rolls his eyes and walks to the door. "Just stay away from her. STAY AWAY." He walks out and slams the door.
