Sybil looked up as Thor walked into the break room. It had been several weeks since she'd been 'rescued' by them but she could already guess what he'd say next; he always said it when he ran into her outside of training.
"I'm sorry for what my brother did to you." The Asgardian stated for what had to be the hundredth time.
She rolled her eyes before looking over at him as he dug around the fridge. "I know, Thor. It's not your fault so you shouldn't have to apologize."
"He is my brother. I have to take care of his messes."
"I don't know the differences between human ages compared to Asgardian ones but I'm sure both of you are considered adults so... Loki can go clean up his own messes. Family or not you shouldn't have to do it for him." Despite the betrayal she'd be pulling on him and the other Avengers- now including Valda- she still didn't mind giving her honest opinion on the matter. Maybe he'd stop apologizing too.
"You are going to grow into a wise woman." Thor nodded to her in farewell, a plate of food now in his hands.
Sybil shook her head, not that he could see her, and went back to watching the movie playing on the TV. Other than training or hiding out in her room speaking to Loki about their plans through holographic projections or plain telepathy she was usually watching something in the break room. It got pretty boring honestly. Unfortunately Valda spent most of her time in training now that she'd been hired by S.H.I.E.L.D. and was usually too tired to hang out in her free time. The only consolidation she got from that fact was when the attack came her friend would be able to defend herself.
"So, when are we actually going to get this party started?"
There was silence before Loki's response came. "I told you the attack will be soon. Just be prepared and don't get too impatient. The mortals will start to get suspicious and we can't ruin this after you worked to get their trust."
"Fine..."
She gave a heavy sigh before standing up and walking out of the room. Loki wouldn't tell her when the attack would actually take place other than 'soon' but Sybil was growing bored waiting. The anticipation was beginning to get to her as well and all she could hope was that none of the agents here would notice she was beginning to get tense.
There were cameras everywhere so she couldn't just wander around forever; others might think she was being 'suspicious' as Loki put it. Sybil was glad they couldn't read her mind but it would've made things a little more challenging... Then again, that would mean a lot more work on her part. Another sigh escaped her as she slowly trudged through the plain hallways towards her small living quarters. On the way she passed the training room where she could hear Valda sparring inside with the agents while Banner and Tony were speaking to the other Avengers and Fury in the lab. Had they found something? They must've if they had brought Fury in to discuss it; the guy was in charge.
"What if Loki's attack is ruined? I'll be exposed as a traitor for nothing... then again... if he's caught Valda and my family will be safe. I would be able to stay out of this mess entirely until it blows over" She shuddered at the consequences from either side. They were both bad. Loki would murder those close to her while S.H.I.E.L.D. would probably kill her and use her for scientific research. "No, I have to go through with his plan. I have to keep them safe. S.H.I.E.L.D. will not be able to kill me as long as I help Loki succeed."
Still, she couldn't help but stop and try to listen in on their conversation using a simple spell to hide her from view. Sybil looked into the lab through the glass but whatever was on the screen Banner kept pointing at was hidden from view behind the group. She stuck around for a little bit longer, still trying to listen in on their conversation but only managed to catch a few words like: power, energy source, attack, and alert. Her initial thoughts seemed to at least be in the right direction then. Perhaps they were able to track Loki's location like they had the first time he'd invaded Earth.
Sybil backed away from the glass and quickly moved away from them before she made any slip ups and got caught spying. "They last thing I need right now is to be caught and blamed for ruining anything. Loki would do more than torture me; he'd straight up kill me in the slowest, most agonizing way possible!"
The door to her room clicked shut behind her and Sybil flopped back down on her bed to stare at the ceiling. If she'd been home right now she'd be at home reading or playing computer games... but now she was stuck here; sucked into a war she and Valda never should've been a part of. Perhaps this was her fate though. Sybil had always loved a good fight and now there was an actual risk to it. She sat up and made her scythe appear; it was best for her to make sure it was sharp and ready to kill.
"It's happening soon." Sybil could feel it now, as if the trickster's presence was growing closer. There wasn't a feeling of dread however like there should've been. Instead she felt adrenaline starting to flow through her body as she tried to avoid pacing across the small room. "I am ready."
Not long after that a heavy bombardment of fire hit the helicarrier and rocked the ship to one side ever so slightly. More attacks soon followed afterward and agents started shouting in the halls as they prepared to defend the ship. She knew it wouldn't be long before Loki gave his orders and completely began his full scale attack. Sybil stopped walking and let her weapon fade as footsteps ran to the door; she wouldn't give up her guard yet.
Valda burst in, still sweating from her training session, and stared at her with a slight smile beginning to form on her face. "Hey, we got Loki incoming. Time to fight together like back home?"
Sybil stepped closer and nodded, not giving her friend time to see the pained expression in her gaze. "This time it's real. So we need to make sure we stick together this time."
"Yes... it's real this time. Only I won't be fighting at your side... I'm sorry Valda... Please understand."
