Kat grabbed ahold of the wall, and placed her hand on her stomach. 'That can't be right,' she stuttered. 'There must be some mistake, I can't be pregnant. W-we were safe, we did everything correctly.' She mumbled these words multiple times, and placed her back against the wall.

Em had woken up during all of this, and went over to hug Kat. 'Hey, come here,' she whispered.

'Your blood contains very high levels of hCG, levels that are well over the limit of someone who isn't pregnant,' Dr Nelson explained. 'We'll need to take one more test in a week to finalise everything, but from here, we will help you every step of the way.'

Kat felt like she was going to faint. This explained why she'd faced these symptoms, and it was just a coincidence that they started happening right after she'd eaten street food. 'What am I going to tell Will,' she sobbed. 'He's going to be so horrified.'

'Hey, no, no he will not,' cried Em. She placed her hands around Kat's shoulders, 'This is a gift, a miracle, and there's no way in hell that Will will be mad at you. When he gets back, you need to tell him right away.'

Kat took a deep breath, and wiped away her tears. She turned to face her doctor, 'How many weeks am I?'

Dr Nelson took a look at his clipboard. 'Five weeks, so just over a month.'

'T-that was right before we went to Paris,' Kat sniffled. 'We were so excited about our trip, I-I guess we weren't careful.'

Over the next couple of days, Kat carried on feeling nauseous, and visited the toilet bowl multiple times. Em never left her side, and was a shoulder for Kat to cry on every time she thought about the news she'd received.

'Will's getting back soon,' sobbed Kat, as she sat on her kitchen bench. She wiped her eyes with a tissue, and tilted her head back.

Em pushed herself up so that she was sitting next to Kat on the counter. 'You can do this,' she reassured. 'He'll be back in half an hour so I'm going to leave, but promise me that you will tell him right away. Keeping stuff like this will only create a wall between you both.'

Kat nodded, and then took a deep breath. 'Thank you for being here these past few days. I don't think I would've been able to get through it all by myself.' She hugged Em one last time.

Kat stood in her bedroom, staring at herself in the mirror. She lifted up her striped sweatshirt and glared at her stomach. 'You've changed my life now,' she mumbled, looking down at her belly.  'You've also given me morning sickness really early,' she giggled. Suddenly, a tiny rush of excitement went through her body. Her perspective on the situation was slowly turning positive.

The sound of the front door opening made Kat quickly pull her shirt back down. She walked out into the lounge and found Will entering with one suitcase in his hand. The nerves she'd just gotten rid of poured back into her body.

'Oh, love,' he smiled. 'You're looking better.'

Kat walked over and kissed him. 'Hey.'

'You didn't answer my calls, or call me back about your diagnosis? I was getting really worried.'

'I'm sorry, I should've called,' she sighed. 'I'll uh, make us some tea.' She walked over to the kettle and turned it on.

Will chuckled, as he placed down his suitcase. 'And what about your diagnosis?'

Kat stopped scooping out the tea leaves, and stared towards the pantry cupboard. Just tell him, said a voice in her head. She sighed, and walked over to hold his hands. 'About that,' she began, 'There's something I need to tell you.' She let go of his hands, and placed her own on her neck. These next few moments could change everything.

'Hey, you can talk to me. What's wrong?'

'I-I,' she stuttered, while looking away.

Will placed his hand on her cheek and wiped away her tears. 'It's okay, whatever it is, I'm here for you.'

Kat let one tear fall, and then the rest poured out like rain on a stormy evening.  She walked out of the lounge and went to sit on their bed.

Will came in after her. 'Katherine, I love you,' he wept. 'Please, trust me when I say that you can tell me anything.' He sat down beside her, and gently placed his hand on her leg.

Kat closed her eyes, and opened her mouth slowly, 'I'm pregnant.'

Silence filled the room.

Will's eyes grew bigger, and the emotion of shock appeared on his face. He didn't say anything for a few seconds, but a small smile formed on his mouth. 'Oh, love,' he grinned, with tears of joy running down his face. 'This is the best miracle that could possibly happen.'

Kat turned her head and gazed into his blue eyes. 'You think so?'

'Of course, and I'm so sorry we weren't careful.' Will grabbed her hands, 'But this is a blessing, don't you think?'

The corners of Kat's lips rose, 'I guess it is.' She let out a laugh, and then a huge smile ran across her face. 'I guess we're having a baby then,' she giggled, her tears of pain turning into tears of delight.

'Now that is the gorgeous smile I've missed seeing these past days', Will grinned. He raised his arms in the air, 'We're having a baby.'

She pulled him in for a hug, and he kissed her.

That night, Kat was finally able to relax. Will was back in bed, and holding her tight. His arms were around her shoulders, with his hands lightly resting on her stomach. She trailed kisses along his body, as he traced a heart on her bare skin.

'I really thought you'd be mad at me when I told you,' Kat whispered. She turned around to face him.

'There is no possible way I could get mad at you. I should be the one apologising for not being careful.'

Kat kissed him, 'Em was right, this is a miracle. Don't be sorry.' She wrapped her hands around the back of his neck.

They spent the next few minutes locking their lips together, before drifting off to sleep in each other's arms.

This was the beginning of something new.
