Kat's phone vigorously shook on the bedside table. Surely it's not important, she thought to herself. She pressed the off button and covered her head with a pillow.
It began to ring again.
'Ugh,' she moaned, picking it up. 'Hello,' she whispered, still half asleep.
'You sound like you've just woken up,' laughed Emeraude through the phone.
If Em wasn't behind a screen right now Kat would've nudged her. 'You have just woken me up.'
Em chuckled, 'Well, I'm calling to say that I'm on the way over. Your baby shower is today, and we're nowhere near close to finishing the set up.'
For a moment, Kat thought that she was still in London, peacefully sleeping at Alice's house and this was all a dream. But no, she was 7 months pregnant, and about to have one of the biggest parties of her life.
'I'll see you soon then,' Kat yawned. She walked into the bathroom and splashed water onto her face. She glanced at the clock on the wall, 7 o'clock.
Emeraude arrived an hour later. She helped herself into the apartment with the spare key and walked into the lounge. She placed the six large bags that were wrapped around her arms onto the floor beside the couch.
'Kat, where are you?'
Kat walked out of her bedroom with a towel around her head. 'Hey, you didn't need to wake me up at 7.'
Em laughed, 'Oh, but I did. We have a very big day ahead of us.' She walked over to the bags and pulled out a bunch of decorations. 'Let's go and take these to the villa.'
Will and Kat had decided to host their baby shower at a villa on the waterfront. The location had a gorgeous deck that moved out into a garden, and behind that was the ocean. To top it off, the city weather was stunning, with not a cloud in the sky.
Kat grabbed a bag from the floor and looked at the decorations. 'These are all blue?' she questioned.
'I have 6 bags filled with 6 different colours,' giggled Em, 'That way, it's neutral.'
Kat chuckled, 'Right. Well, we'll all find out the gender tonight.'
'Oh, are you excited? I'm excited!'
'Of course I am. Will and I cannot wait.' Kat took off her head towel and let her damp hair fall out. 'I'm going to go and dry my hair, and then let's go to the villa to set up.'
Em threw her arms in the air, 'Let's do this!'
By ten o'clock, Kat and Em had completely set up all the decorations. On the deck, there was a large table filled with food, cake and flowers, and huge balloons surrounded the outside of the villa.
Will arrived shortly after. 'It is looking fantastic here,' he smiled, giving Kat a kiss.
'Now where have you been, mister?' asked Em, placing her hands on her hips.
Will chuckled, 'I went to collect this.' He pulled down an opaque helium balloon. 'All will be revealed when this balloon is popped.'
Kat squealed with excitement. 'This is so cute. Let's just hope it doesn't pop beforehand.'
Will and Em both laughed.
All of a sudden, Kat placed her hands on her stomach. 'Oh my gosh,' she screamed.
'What is it? Are you okay?' asked Will.
'Come here,' smiled Kat, 'The baby's moving.'
Will rushed over and placed his warm hands on Kat's belly. He could feel the baby wiggling around as he traced his hands along the edge of her shirt. 'I know we've felt this before, but it still shocks me with excitement every time,' he grinned.
