"Shit." I mumbled quietly to myself as a drop of my blood hit the marble floor. After Luke had dropped the mug and left, I had been attempting to clear up the mess he left behind, but not without accidentally slicing my finger.
I aprubptly stood up, and ran my finger under a stream of cold water from the sink. What the hell was Luke's problem? Yeah I get it, Michael's his friend, but it's not like I'm trying to 'steal' his friend away from him.
What are we, five?
Luke was certainly acting like it.
As I quickly swept up the rest of the cup shards, I heard a yell come from outside the shop. I couldn't just ignore it, it would drive customers away.
I had to quickly go out and tell them to take their 'misunderstanding' somewhere else, whoever it was.
"Thanks a lot Luke", I mumbled to myself, I couldn't leave the shop unattended, Molly would kill me and anything could happen, but then I heard another shout and I knew I had to stop it.
At first I was hesitant about leaving the shop, as Molly wasn't in and anyone could steal the money from the till, but then I swore I heard Luke shout.
"Here, you're in charge. Be back in a bit." I quickly shoved an apron on a middle aged guy, who looked trustworthy enough, and I immediately fled the shop. What did I just do?
"What...?" I trailed off, peering into the small crowd of people that had surrounded in front of the shop doors. Luke and Michael were in a highly compromising position, Luke ontop of Michael with Michael's arm wrapped around Luke's neck.
If you took a first glance at them now, you'd immediately think they were sworn enemies, not best friends.
"Stop!" I shouted, surprising myself as I barged through the gathered people and forced myself between the two. Michael immediately released his grip on Luke, as Luke was slightly more resistant, meaning I had to shove him backwards before he could make a sharp left hook towards Michael's face.
"What the hell is wrong with you?" I stated, looking worriedly at the pair of them. Michael had a bruise going up the left side of his face, where as blood was streaming from Luke's nose.
"Inside." I ordered, pushing Michael in front off me as I left Luke to trail behind us. Luckily, they obeyed without a complaint. Obviously they knew they'd been idiots.
I didn't know either of the boys well at all, but I'm pretty sure Michael wouldn't start a fight like that. It must have been Luke.
"Thank you so much, I'm so sorry to leave you like that. You're order is on the house." I said to the guy who I'd left the shop alone to, as he just shook his head and smiled politely at me.
"No problem." He replied, taking off the apron I had previously thrown at him and placing it on the counter, walking back over to his usual seat.
I walked the boys into the kitchen area, out of the view from the customers because it probably wouldn't be amazingly appetizing to see two beaten up teenage boys. (who am I kidding oops)
"Hold." I said, after running a flannel under cold water and placing it on Luke's nose. I also grabbed a pack of ice from the fridge and gave it to Michael, who immediately placed it on his sore cheek.
"You're idiots." I stated, sitting down and staring at the pair of them as they winced at the touch of the cold items I had given them to help.
"Sorry who do you think you are? You're not my f*cking mother Maddy so you can stop telling me what to do." Luke suddenly shouted, bursting out of his seat as he chucked the bloody flannel to the floor.
"You were shouting and fighting each other outside the shop, which is my business because you're driving customers away. What the hell did you expect me to do?!" I fired back at him, angry with his selfishness. I turned away, slamming my hand down on the counter next to me before wincing in pain.
"How did you cut yourself?" Luke asked suddenly, pointing towards my cut hand from the glass he dropped earlier.
"Oh so now you care? I cut it picking up broken cup you decided to smash." I stated. I really didn't know what had gotten into me, because I used to rarely ever talk, let alone yell and shout at people.
I barely ever talked at all, apart from to customers in the shop and to people who said hello to me, which rarely ever happened. I had no friends, no caring parents, a useless therapist and no-one else in the world to talk to, but two violent boys can suddenly make me aggressive too?
I don't like this kind of me.
"I'm sorry, I didn't mean to." Luke said, lowering his eyes from me and hanging his head in shame. I did feel slightly guilty, but then I remembered what he had just started.
"You see? You're just not good for her." Michael stated, pressing the pack of ice further up his face as he made eye contact with Luke who shuffled uncomfortably in his seat.
"I gotta go." Luke sighed, standing up and suddenly walking out, the flannel still pressed firmly to his face as he slammed the kitchen doors behind him.
"That was fun." Michael said, as I rolled my eyes, laughing at his enthusiasm and standing up.
I still wasn't perfectly comfortable with Michael, as he had just been in that fight too and although he didn't shout at me like Luke did, he was just as guilty.
"I gotta get back to the customers before they leave." I told Michael as he nodded and placed the pack of ice down on the counter behind him.
"Thanks Maddie." Michael said, smiling at me as he suddenly stepped forward and pressed his lips to my cheek slowly, yet surely.
"Bye Michael." I grinned as he stepped out of the room, but not before sending me a cheeky smirk.
My hand rose to my cheek, lightly grazing over the exact place Michael's lips had just touched. That moment was just special to me, and I have no idea why. But that wasn't what confused me.
My mind couldn't seem to ignore the fact that I just couldn't stop worrying about why Luke had left so quickly.
