Ch 21- Together Again

I was happy that Beth found Maggie again, but also nervous. Would she tell Maggie about us, or not say anything. "How long you guys been staying here," Beth asked her sister.

"A couple weeks maybe. It was a old hotel or something, everyone is here, plus a couple new folks. Glenn, Tyrese, Bob, Sasha and the new people are out on a run. They should be back soon," Maggie smiled towards us.

I looked over to see Carl and Rick sitting with Judith on the couch. They were looking at her like she came back from the dead... Which I suppose they thought she did.

"Why don't I get y'all and room," Maggie suggested. Beth nodded, slinging her arm around me for support as we followed Maggie.

"So what happened to your foot," Maggie asked.

"Broke it, I think it's healed now, but it still hurts," Beth answered with a forced smile. Maggie nodded, stopping at a door.

"Here Beth, go get settled in. Daryl your right next door," she smile at me. I nodded, walking to the room next door. I set down my crossbow and backpack and lay down on the bed. The room was okay. Not the best hotel ever, but then again I've never stayed in one before now.

I begin to drift off to sleep when I hear a knock at the door. I groaned,"Come in."

I expected Beth to be standing there, but instead it was Maggie. "I wanna thank you, for taking care of Beth, she told me everything about escaping the prison, and thank you," she smiled genuinely. Wait, Beth told her everything?

"She tol' ya everything," I asked. Maggie gave me a look of confusion.

"About escaping the prison and finding Rick and Michone, and taking care of her when she broke her ankle... Why did something else happen," she asked suspiciously.

"Nah, jus' wonderin," I grumbled, closing my eyes again. I heard her shuffle our of the room and close the door. I eventually drifted off to sleep, Beth in my mind. What would happen to us now?

I woke up to the sound of a knock at my door. "What," I grumbled irritably.

"It's Beth," the voice answered from the other side of the door. A smile peeked on my face.

"Oh, come in," I said, less irritably.

She walked in and closed the door behind her, plopping down on my bed. "Suppers ready, and I think we need to talk," Beth mumbled.

I nodded," Okay. Are you gonna tell em?"

"Should I," she asked, looking down.

"Gonna need to know sometime, and probably will if they catch you walking into my room," I smirk. She blushes furiously.

"I'll tell Maggie tonight, okay," she smiled.

I nod, then cup her face. I lean in and I enjoy the familiar friction between our lips. We pull away after a couple seconds.

"I'll save a seat for you," she smiled, getting up and walking out of my room.

A few minutes later I go down. There are familiar faces such as Glenn, Bob, Tyrese, And Sasha. Then I see unfamiliar ones.

Two women, one having tanner skin and dark hair, the other one pretty pale with dark hair as well. The paler one looks nervous for some reason.

I also notice two men, the one I notice first has orange hair and looks like he might be from the army. The other has his hair styled in a weird flip.

"Daryl, nice to see you again. That's Tara, Rosita, Eugene and-" Glenn starts but is interrupted by the red head.

"Abraham." He speaks. Oh great, one of those people.

I nod and search the room for Beth, and I find her sitting on a couch with Judith and Carl. I sit on the floor besides the couch and she smiled at me handing me a bowl of soup.

"So, what's the plan," I asked.

"What do ya mean," Rick asked running his hand over his lips like he always does.

"Where do we go next," I said.

"Actually, I was-" Abraham started, but was interrupted by Rick.

"Nowhere. This can be our home now," Rick finished.

"Gotta keep moving. Jus' matter of time before the horde catches up with us. Homes are never permanent," I reminded them.

"I propose," Abraham cut in," We escort Eugene here, to Washington."

"And why should we do that," Rick asked.

"He knows what started it. How to cure it," Abraham stated.

"Bullshit," I grumbled.

"I do know. We were on a mission to Washington before we ran into Glenn and Tara," Eugene answered.

"Then what is it," Rick asked him.

"I-I... That information is Top Secret, and I-" Eugene started.

"Bullshit. Secrets make everything worse in this world, ain't no more secrets," I grumbled back.

"I really can't," Eugene muttered. Stubborn ass.

"What happens when a walker bites ya, or someone threatens your life," Rick asked.

"Uh. That's why Rosita and I are here. We protect him with all costs," Abraham stated and Rosita nodded.

"Wow. Even in times like these the government can't take responsibility for the mistakes they make. It was their fault wasn't it," Maggie asked.

Glenn put a hand on her shoulder and shook his head,"Right now ain't the time to be arguing. Now listen, we are a group. Some people in our group is hurt, and one is just a baby. We aren't going to escort you with that."

"I think we should go. Gotta keep moving and at least we have a destination, ya know," I argue.

"We have traveled with Judith before," Carol adds in,"And Beth is a strong girl. She can handle herself."

I see Beth smile over at Carol,"Yeah. Maybe we can get some crutches and travel by car most of the way till I can walk."

"For right now, we say," Rick cuts in. "We will help ya, but not now. We all need to rest. It's getting late anyway we should all go sleep."

Carol stands up, collecting everyone's bowls. When she gets to me she gives me a weird smile, then continues on. I look over at Beth, to see her playing with Judith on her lap.

I gently rub her shoulder quickly before standing up and going into my room. I knew I wouldn't be able to sleep. Not knowing that the horde is rapidly approaching us. We need to go. We need to stay ahead.

Maybe the Washington isn't just bullshit. Maybe there is a cure. Maybe it will all go back to normal.
