We'd been sat in the back of the Uber for a good ten minutes in genuinely comfortable silence, when the London traffic finally had us at a stand still, and the driver decided to make conversation.

"How's the day treated you?" He asked, looking in his rear view, he was middle aged and had that dad kind of look about him. "Or should I ask since I picked you guys up from a hospital?" He chuckled lightly.

"Yeah, long story." I half smiled with a shrug and I turned my attention to Gus who didn't seem to be paying any kind of attention to the conversation instead, he was far more focused on watching the world outside so I nudged him with my hand to bring him back into the car and he almost jumped at the sensation.

"You want to listen to some music, you can plug your phones in if you want? You seem young, what's the good stuff these days?" At that moment Gus' demeanour utterly changed, like it basically did a full one-eighty right in front of my eyes and I knew what was coming which I can't deny got me a little excited.

"Actually I make music." He paused and the driver laughed a little.

"You kids are all doing that these days, but go on, let's hear it." The drivers words had an immediate effect on Gus' face like he gain and lost respect for him within the space of a second.

"Yeah but my shit's good." He snapped, not even trying to hide his instant distaste for the man behind the wheel, not that it mattered our lives were in his hands or anything major like that.

"The aux is there." The driver pointed to the black wire beside him and Gus grabbed it without hesitation.

"Vee, you ain't ready." Gus grinned at me as he connected his phone to the car and scrolled through a library of songs. "I'm gonna play you something I haven't released yet but it's going on my album." He looked like he'd finally made a decision after all the scrolling. "Turn it up." He looked at the driver through the rear view and he turned the dial to a loud but safe volume.
The music that started playing was a guitar rig and it immediately didn't sound typical of a rap song to me, which had me intrigued at then, there was Gus...

'I know that you want me,
You know that I want you,
The memories haunt me,
I know that they haunt you too,
But it's alright, you'll be fine,
Baby it's alright, you'll be fine,
As long as you're mine, take a look at the time,
It gets cold at night, when you're alone outside,
But it's fine, I'll be fine
Pay me no mind girl, pay me no mind,

Just look at the bright side,
(Look at the bright side)
Just look at the club lights,
(Rolling under the club lights)
I gotta look at the bright side,
(Look at the bright side)
I guess she wasn't the one, right?
This isn't what love's like that's for sure.

Help me find a way to pass the time,
(To pass the time)
Everybody telling me life short but I wanna die,
(I wanna die)
Help me find a way to make you mine,
(Make you mine)
Everybody telling me not to but I'm gonna try,
Now I'm getting high again tonight...'

The music abruptly cut out there and surprised me a little bit, I'd been completely lost in in for that small amount of time it had been washing around, me, and it was good, like really good, Gus sounded incredible, even though to me, he was singing, not rapping.

"Uh yeah, sorry it's not quite finished yet, my friend Dylan, he produced it, he's still working on mastering it." Gus piped up after a moment of silence from me, as though he was expecting harsh judgement.
