"Mainly 'cause her ass is so fat."

Ryan's friend Sean looked up at the opened door.

"Sean." Ryan snapped his fingers in Sean's face.

In shock, Sean pointed to the door, or the two people walking away from it.
He almost laughed.

Ryan turned his head and stared in disbelief.

His best friend showing up to school with the girl he hated.

Ex-best friend.

Rubber-neck, Jax thought as he side-eyed Ryan.

Zara knew Ryan and everyone else was staring her down.

Her mind was operating on overload.

I should've stayed home.
From school and the party.

I should've just stayed in mommy's womb.

"Hey Jax, did you have fun with Jessica at the party?" a devilish grin plastered on his meatball-nosed face.

Out of her peripheral view, Zara could see Ryan burning holes into the side of her face.

She bit the inside of her cheek, looking down at her wooden desk.

Jax took notice of Zara's silence and looked across from him to find Ryan staring at her in anger and utmost disgust.

"Like what you see?" Jax tested him.

"No, actually I don't. At all," Ryan smiled, knowing that this would hurt Zara's feelings.

And it did.
Though it made her just as much angry as it made her sad.

What if she just ran over him one day?
Just one good "fender-bender".

She would most certainly bend his fender.

"Hey Zara, did you have fun at my party?" he mocked.

Zara didn't look up from her desk, only fiddled with the black zipper on her hoodie.

She let out a quiet sigh when Ryan turned around in his seat, laughing as he grinned.
A look of satisfaction was plastered across his face.

She felt her heart getting ready to jump in her chest.
The outbreak of heat rose up to her neck and forehead.

Preparing for lift-off.

Jax clenched his jaw, ready to punch him in his nose again.

Until it fell clean off this time.

Jax took a look at Zara, she was pulling her phone out of her bag with shaky hands.

"You okay?" he whispered down to her with a concerned smile.

Zara nodded as she gave an uneasy smile, avoiding eye contact as she pulled her phone out of her bag with trembling hands.

"Leave her alone." Jax said through gritted teeth.

"Or what, Rugged Rib?"

Jax looked into Ryan's eyes.

He was his best friend.
Was.

He threw away his only meaningful relationship for a girl that he couldn't even admit he liked.

Was it all worth it?
Would it be?
