1998
We flew to San Francisco
for an afternoon.
It was raining when we got there.
It didn't matter
& we were glowing.
1999
We drove to see the ocean
a Tuesday morning.
I had class at 8
by then we were 100 miles away
& we were smiling.
2001
We ran to catch the train
in winter.
My boots got ruined,
we shared a suitcase
& we were happy.
2004
We walked through the mall
on black friday.
We left empty handed,
Our arms free of bags
& we had everything.
2008
We stood in line
in tourist season.
Surrounded by restlessness,
More than just us now
& we had a family.
2018
We sat on the couch
the week before the school year started.
We told Jack,
he said he wasn't surprised
& that we were not a family.
