It was my turn to be confused. Now that we were at home Mads was running around the house gathering our stuff and repeating one word nonstop, no. "Mads, what's going on?" She stopped for a second, studied my face, then went back to packing up all of our belongings. "Wait! We can't move.." I sat down, suddenly distraught from the realization of what Mads was doing.

"Em, do you remember what happened when you were four?" I thought that was a stupid question. "DUH! Our parents left us and left a note on the fridge saying they'd be back soon." She looked at the floor and in a barely audible voice said, "I wrote that note, not them." I felt like the world was spinning. "Umm.. what?" Mads walked to the window and took a deep breath, "Sit down Em, I need to tell you what really happened ten years ago."

I was sitting at the table and Mads was getting a drink from the faucet. "Okay, Emily, are you ready?" I nodded my head. "When you turned four I was babysitting you and something happened that is easier to show you, then explain." Maddie opened her hand, and pointed it towards me. A beam of light shone out of her hand and I was startled. It shone towards me and I didn't know what to do. It was warm, but it had a sort of prick to it, like the sun. "Mom was part of the sun, and dad was part of the moon. They had me and I turned out to be a sun like mom. The thing about sun/moon relationships is they have to be balanced."

I nodded wanting her to keep going, but she went upstairs and came back down with a picture album. She showed me the picture and now that Mads had mentioned it, mom was really energetic and vibrant, and dad looked more calm and slightly mysterious. "Emily, in order for the sun/moon relationship to work they had to have a boy. Mom came home from the hospital carrying you, a bundle of light and joy, and Dad looked at you and said, 'what happened?'" I was starting to cry but I nodded, I needed to know what happened to my mom and dad.

"If the sun/moon relationship was pure, meaning no cheating, or violence, you would have been a boy, but something happened the day after Mom and Dad's wedding that both of them regret. Dad knew what happened. The day after their wedding they got into a fight. Too much drinking, or something, from the night before. They got home and fought, like fist fighting. Mom got a bloody nose, Dad got a bruise, and they hated fighting. They looked so sad, and realized that they wanted to make the relationship work.

"Four years later, here I am, a beautiful shining baby girl, another four years later another beautiful baby girl. Then another four years later they got in another fight, went for a drive, and didn't come back. I wrote the note on the fridge. I knew they wouldn't be back, until something would make them come back." I shook my head, I didn't understand. "What do you mean? What do I have to do with all of this? Why do we have to leave?" Mads didn't make eye contact. "They aren't coming back because they aren't allowed to come back until you get your powers. That's one of the things that mom told me. If you ever got your powers that I'd have to take you far away and hide you so they can't find you, because if they do there might be no Em..."
