"You know he won't stop looking for us, right?" Mom spoke for the first time during the ride. I looked at Mads, and Mads looked at Mom. "Mom, not meaning to be disrespectful or anything, but we are going to have to work on getting your optimism back up." Mom nodded, and zoned out, looking out the window.

Mads stopped outside a humane society. "Hey, Mads, why are we here?" Mads smiled sneakily, "Stay here Em, Mom come with me." So Mom followed Mads inside while I sat in the car for about half an hour. Finally Mads and Mom come out of the humane society with an animal carrier.

Maddie set the animal carrier down on my lap. "Don't peek." I nodded, but I was so interested in what was in the carrier. I looked at Mom to take my mind off it. Whatever was in the carrier must be amazing, because Mom was beaming.

"Come on Mads, can I please look now?" Mads was grinning. "Yeah, no. That's not happening. We have to get an apartment, and go shopping, and then you can look." I groaned, and watched out my window. I saw some trees and thought about home. I looked at my notebook, and thought, 'why not?'

Dear Flower, I am curious as to what is in this carrier. It looks like the same one you were carried in when you were brought home. I met Mom, and Dad, and only Mom seems to care about us. Dad just wanted to hurt us, and Mom. It was scary. We are about to go find an apartment, and before we get one we will probably live in our car. We are also somehow going to get groceries, but with what money? I am curious about a lot right now. I need to go, bye Flower. <3 Love you xo

"Maaads," I groaned. I was bored and didn't want to write in my journal any more right now. Mads was still driving and, she took the exit at ... I don't know. I was so bored I couldn't even read the sign. It was some long exit that started with "L." I couldn't concentrate on much of anything to be honest. I was getting really antsy. "Maaaaads," I said again, a little more impatiently. "Em please, we're almost there. Please just settle down." Maddie had an edge to her voice. As if she were waiting for something bad to happen. That edge gave me enough of a hint to sit back, relax, and enjoy the ride... as much as I'm able to anyways.
