I told Trey everything Clayton told me when he dropped me off at home that night. We were sitting in my back yard by the pool.

"I want you to be careful," he said as his phone rang for the 5th time since we got here.

"Dont worry muffin. I am." I told him.

"Oooh so I'm your chocolate muffin now?" he asked me.

"Nigga you forgot that you lightskinned? You more of a vanilla muffin with a dash on cinnamon," I said as his phone rang yet again.

"Answer it," I said with my serious face.

He picked up the phone. "Hello... I'm with my girl... Nigga shut your ass up...  Why you actin like a lil bitch... Never that... Word? Where at?... Iight... I'm gonna call if I do... Bye."

"Who was that?" I asked him.

"Doobie. They have a party on campus tonight asking if I was gonna come thru."

"You should go. Bond with your teammates before school start."

"I was gonna chill and comfort my baby," he said.

"Nah. I need to get my beauty sleep before the wedding tomorrow." I told him.

"But you ugly. How that work out?" he asked as I stood up.

"Then why you with my ugly ass?"

"I look towards the soul," he joked.

"Get out my house!" I laughed.

"Bye baby. I love you more than a fat bitch love chocolate cake." he said in his Stevie J voice leaning down to give me a kiss. He went to his car.

"I bet you do. Dont get fucked up before tomorrow. My daddy counting on you!" I yelled out to him.

I didn't really feel like being alone so I hopped in my car and drove to my momma house.

When I walked through the door, lil cousin Lailah was walking around playing with toys. My mom was sitting on the sofa watching movies.

"Hey my baby! How was orientation?"

"Really fun. I scheduled all of my classes and meet a lot of people. It's just so big over there I'm knowing I'm about to get lost."

"You gonna be able to handle it. You ready for tomorrow?" she asked me.

"Yea. Going pick up my dress in the morning and then meet the rest of the girls at the Marriott. You still coming to the wedding," I asked her.

"I don't think imma come baby. Guess who I talked to today?" she asked.

"No momma don't try and change the subject. Why you not comin?"

"I still love your dad," she said.

"WHAT!?" I yelled.

"I made a mistake a couple months ago Chanel. Your dad came here looking for you, I invited him in to wait for you and one thing led to another."

"Don't tell me y'all did it momma."

"Yes we did it," she muttered under her breath. "But don't get me wrong, it was before he met Deniece.

"Was it good?" I asked before she hit me with a pillow. "Who did you talk to today?,"

"Your aunt Tammy," she said. Lailah's mom.

"Are you serious?! How is she?" I asked.

She put her head down. "In prison. Been there for 3 months."
