Tired eyes and bloody skies

"We still don't-" "I know."

"But-" "I know."

Everyone one was frustrated. The bloodshot eyes, bags heavier than the weight of the issues from my past, the slump; if one sign didn't give it away there were about twenty others to give it away that we all felt like shit. We certainly looked it.

Every one of us was increasingly getting frustrated and losing our patience, with each other and ourselves. As fun as this hunt was, we didn't like it. We din't like not knowing  whether what we were looking for was still there or just... gone, or whether or not we'd be alive tomorrow.

"What's-what's going on? With us, that is. What's happened to us?" Aryan's voice came out hoarse and raspy, his eyes not having the strength to leave the ground and look at us. "I don't know," Bert sighed and leaned back.

It'd been a few days since we'd been living in the forest in tents, taking shifts to stay awake. We did keep moving, and we had gotten closer, but it wasn't close enough for any of us to feel reassurance.

As of now we'd found the fourth dead body. Well, corpse is a more fitting word. It also happened to be inside the forest, and we only managed to find the fourth because the writing said it's location was the only one that hadn't been destroyed. We didn't know where the third or second body were, and we were bugged out of our minds trying to figure out where the locations were.

"Guys, there's one place we could look," Aryan said and I groaned. "Are we sure that the second or third, wait no. Are we sure that any body could be there?" I rubbed my eyes and turned to face him. "No, but we don't have anything else to lose or another option," Aryan shrugged apologetically.

"And what if there's nothing there?" Anna stopped her pacing to look at him, with her head cocked to one side as usual. "We try again. I don't know!" Aryan tugged at his hair as his nostrils flared for a moment. "When do we leave for this place then?" "Tomorrow," Aryan's answer was short, he didn't want to talk about this or anything anymore.

"How late is it right now?" "2 a.m.," Chloe answered and at this point I'd gotten so used to staying late here that my eyes didn't widen and  didn't exclaim anything in indication of surprise and/or shock. Or maybe that was because I was too sleep deprived to show emotion so saying, "Okay," seemed fine enough.

"Okay-" "Do not!" Chloe napped at Bert who chuckled softly at her. I had no idea why he smiled at his sister snapping at him (but I do now, he just liked quoting 'The Fault in Our Stars' to annoy his sister who... let's say strongly disliked the book, a complete opposite of Bert's feelings towards the book and others written by John Green but who am I to judge).

"What was that about?" "Huh?" "Y'know, the part where Chloe got mad when you said 'okay'. What was that about?" "Long story," "I've got time," "Not enough."

I laid next to Bert in our sleeping bags, Aryan took a tent for himself and Chloe and Anna shared the third one. I honestly felt bad for the nineteen year old; poor kid fifth wheeled all the time.

It only took a few minutes of tossing and turning for Bert to annoy me. He sighed loudly and I ignored him, and when he saw that I paid him no mind he huffed loudly. And he did that agin. And again. And again.

"Alright fine,  what do you want?" I was halfway through growling that out in frustration really. He grinned at me before saying, "I'm bored," in the most deadpan manner possible. "Well what do I do about it?" "I don't know! Tell me a bed time story or something!" "A bed time story? Firstly, it's way past anyone's bed time and secondly, are you five?" He simply stared blankly at my face and I sighed.

"Sleep," I shoved his arm and he huffed but complied and turned to face the other way so my face was at level with the back of his head.

"Rise and shine, sunshine!" "Fuck off!" "Looks like sunshine turned to the dark side."

As per usual, Aryan was annoying the living crap out of Anna, which he would soon learn was a terrible idea when she had just gotten up; that girl was cranky if woken up before twelve p.m.

"Will she go back to normal by the time we reach the dead body?" Chloe whispered to me and I shrugged apologetically, since I had no idea if she would (go back to normal that is).

"Can't be sure we'll find a corpse there," Anna's voice rung out as she stormed her way past us to catch up to Aryan, smacking the back of his head to make her presence known.

"Nothing too bad in being optimistic," Bert muttered under his breath and I chuckled at him. After heaven knows how long, we finally stopped walking. But why would that be because we found the corpse.  Just why? We can't have peace, satisfaction and/or happiness here, can we?

"Fuck hide," I grabbed Bert's hand and pulled him down behind a bush with me. I had no idea where the other three were but at least that meant they were doing a pretty good job at hiding.

"Go," I heard a man order and I peeked up to see a man (maybe the same one, maybe not) push Sarah ahead towards a cave like structure. Almost all the men disappeared inside, except for two who were left to guard the entrance.

Chloe and Anna inched behind both the men quietly, and before the guys knew it they were dead. Chloe put the man she went for in a chokehold and made sure to cover his mouth so he couldn't scream, and once he passed out she napped his neck. Anna also covered her victim's mouth but instead of choking she went to stab his neck, so she didn't have to cover his mouth for more than a second or two.

They dragged the limp bodies and dumped them in a bush before standing up straight and walking over to where Aryan stood behind a tree, still making sure their footsteps were quiet. I walked in a rather uncomfortable crab-like crouch while Bert chose to instead just crawl to Aryan. We both stood up and brushed the dirt of our pants before Aryan asked me, "Now what?"

"Now, we wait for them to come out," "Out the closet?" "Now's not the time Chloe," "Oh don't be such a buzzkill Nyx, it's always time for gay jokes." I rolled my eyes at the blonde who's blue eyes gleamed with mischief, not something one would expect to see in a girl who just brutally snapped someone's neck but nothing else about any of us is normal anyway.

"What do we once they're out the cave?" "Kill them, and let Sarah run off. Her brother's safe," I answered. "How's he safe? He's with Aditya," "He let her brother off a while back. Had to do a lot of digging but yeah, he's safe. All he did was rough the poor kid up a little and record some videos probably, to use on Sarah so she thought her brother was still kidnapped. And since she's cut off from the outside world she wouldn't know," I answered and everyone nodded, since they wouldn't be able to say, "Oh," in that dragged out manner even though it was a reflex for most people.

"Guns ready?" "Yes ma'am," "Knives?" "Duh," "They're coming, start shooting."
