"Fucking hell! This is way too much blood," "Get used to it," I snorted at Aryan's disgust.
It was fine at first, hearing Aryan complain at first. Funny, even. Unlike Chloe, Bert and I, him and Anna weren't used to seeing this much blood. Anna was clearly queasy but she shut up. Aryan, however, had no problem voicing his opinion. That went on for an hour. Sixty. Whole. Minutes.
I swear, interrogating high and/or drunk assholes didn't test my patience as much as the 16 year old Indian boy in front of me who kept writing notes in a journal as he inspected the coffin with a corpse in it. I couldn't feel happy in the slightest about finally finding a body because that fucker couldn't shut up. I knew how to make people talk, but the only way I could make someone shut up was by killing them, which wouldn't work too well here.
Sure, eight just killed bodies did leave a rather large trail of blood behind, but I tried to do damage control by hiding the dead bodies in the bushes, as you do. After about fifteen more minutes I gave up and decided to walk out the cave-like structure.
I sat down on the grass outside, ignoring the snapping of twigs and the blood that probably stained my backside and legs. I sighed loudly and closed my eyes, blocking out the sight of blood trails and tried to focus on the sound of crickets chirping birds tweeting.
My head was pounding and my chest felt like someone was putting a great amount of pressure. My breaths came out rushed and shallow. I felt sore and everything hurt but I still somehow felt numb. My hands were trembling and my head hung low as I tried to ignore the feel of static that went through my body.
I didn't know why but I felt wrong. I'd never felt guilty for killing people before, and I wasn't even sure if it was guilt I felt now. I knew nothing about anything. Nothing felt right, or okay. I didn't understand the 'Why?' to any of this. If Nicole was how she claimed to be, then there was something much bigger going on. I may not like her, but I knew her. And I knew she wasn't like this, and she wasn't who she acted like. She would never go to such lengths just for me.
Even if she would, which was highly unlikely, she was a lone wolf. She'd never worked with anyone apart from my brother and I knew that after his death she wouldn't be able to work with anyone. She wouldn't allow herself to.
"...okay? Nyx!" "Huh, what?" "Are. You. Okay?" "Oh, umm, oh yeah. Yeah I'm fine," "Right," Bert didn't look convinced in the slightest but dropped the topic immediately. He held out a hand to help me up which I took, ignoring his suspicious stare.
"So, what'd we find out from the cave?" I tried to start a conversation. "Well, more graphic descriptions. And the writing where we found the first body is definitely after he's done with his murder spree," Aryan answered without taking his eyes off of what he wrote.
"And? Anything else?" Chloe asked and I turned to her in surprise. I though Aryan would've already told everything to the rest of them but apparently not. "Oh, uhh, yeah. That dead guy was the girl's father; the girl crazy-murderous-dude was after," I raised an eyebrow at that.
"So if her father's dead here how far could she have gotten? Let's be honest here, without money transportation would have been a bitch back then, especially without money, right?" "Yeah, and the villagers were pretty poor because of how horrendous our man Salim was so she has to be in the forest. Well, her corpse has to be," Aryan answered.
"What were the descriptive lines he said about...whatever he said?" Anna said while going to sit on a rather large rock. "Wasn't able to get much out, but I do know that he managed to get ahold of the girl he was after here, but he took her somewhere else" I grimaced at that.
"Well, glad he's dead then," Anna said while shaking her head in disbelief. "Yeah. Oh and we know where the girl should be now," Aryan said casually. It took us a minute to register what he said, and Chloe was the first to react.
"Oh. Oh wait?" She stared wide eyed at Aryan who grinned wolfishly back at her. "Wha-how-why would you say that last?" Anna struggled to get the words out. He simply shrugged in response and Bert smacked him across the head for that. "You're supposed to say the important shit first dumbass," "Oh be glad there's good news," Aryan rolled his eyes and Bert dropped his head in his hands and sighed loudly in disappointment.
"So, where is it?" "Well, we can't say for certain that girl's corpse will be there, but it was where she was held. It doesn't say much, but it says that there should be another cave at the heart of the forest," "And how do we get to the heart of the forest?" I crossed my arms and turned to face him once again.
"Yeah that's the issue, there's no directions-" "Oh for fucks sake!" Anna threw her hands up in anger. "But but but, there is a terribly destroyed map etched on the wall there that I took a picture of," He pulled out his phone to show it to us.
"Again, try showing us the important shit first you dickhead," Bert chastised and Aryan shook his head 'no' in response. Bert rolled his eyes but looked at the picture before saying, "So this starts at the cave but which direction is North?" "We have phones dumbass. They tend to come with compasses on them," I'm pretty sure Bert kicked himself mentally for asking a question that stupid. "Yeah... forgot 'bout that," He scratched the back of his neck while looking at the ground and shuffling his feet.
"So, when do we leave to find the girl? Or what's left of her, that is?" "Now. We have to get there as fast as we can. We pull an all nighter," I said and everyone else nodded in response.

"What happens when we get to the dagger? What's next?"
"I...I'm sorry kid."
