Who would have thought that my Chief has enemies - and I don't mean enemies because of his 'Defence Attorney' title; I mean enemies because of something he has done in the past... It... It feels rather weird...

The day when I have learned about it was one of those calm days with no clients, no murders and no work - just a boring day; or at least it was like that before Kataki decided to do something...

~5th September, 10:00~

~Oken & Co. Law Offices~

"ELA, FOR HOLY MOTHER, WAKE UP!" Those were the words that woke me up on that early Autumn morning.

It took me a good moment or two, or perhaps another shout, to open my sleepy eyes and blink the rest of tiredness away. With a small yawn and a quick stretch of my limbs, I turned my head to look at a nearby clock on my ancient bedside table - 10 in the morning - before shifting my eyes to the calendar next to it.

It was a normal, bland standing calendar which I brought after New Year; I never understood why people brought the calendars with cars or some pretty ladies - nice landscapes, I can understand that - their sole and only purpose is to show what day, month and year it is. The only thing that stood out as I glanced at it was a big, red circle at the end of a line of crosses. The imprisoned number '5', along with a printed above it 'September' caused me to gasp.

5th of the September - It's my birthday! My seventeenth birthday to be precise!

"ELA ARE YOU STILL SLEEPING?!" I've heard my Chief yelling his throat out just to wake me up.

I rolled my eyes as I remained silent. Half of me wanted to sleep a little bit more, after all, it is my birthday today, but the other half wanted to go out and celebrate me becoming a year older. I decided to snuggle in my bed for a bit longer.

"ELA W- Grh..." I've heard Kataki groan in frustration, and a soft sound of him facepalming in disbelief, mumbling something under his nose.

I smiled; he finally decided to give up, perfect. I decided to get some extra Zzz's as I threw my blanket over my body. I smiled again; just a few more minutes Kataki, I promise...

Except my partner had different plans...

The next moment I closed my eyes, I've heard a familiar chirp and a small nudge of my blanket. As I ignored it, something dug its small like needles claws into my forehead and started pecking me. And pecking. And pecking.

"Goddamnit... Fine! I'll wake up, just stop pecking me Wisp!" I finally called out, throwing the blanket off me as I opened my annoyed eyes and spotted the small, brown-orange bird standing on top of me.

I got Wisp from Sakura as a Christmas present last year; at first, he was rather distant to me but over a period of time - and a lot of seeds - he warmed up to me. Like Sakura said, he's been a great help to me: he was able to retrieve evidence that we couldn't reach, spy on suspects with a little camera I have developed in my spare time along with being a cute alarm clock.

Wisp chirped in delight, before nuzzling his head onto my forehead, and set off. Not wanting to be pecked to the death again, I sat up and stretched again - blinking.

My room wasn't anything special - just an old bed, a night table, a desk filled with papers, pencils and wires, a wardrobe where I kept all of my attire, a bookshelf, where I kept all of my books, and a big, fluffy carpet on the wooden floor. The walls still bore the bleak, green paint that I've found a year ago - I'm not sure why I didn't paint it, I guess it just gave the room its charm.

Before my clock could return, I've jumped out of my bed with a yelp as my feet touched the cold floor. Despite it being early autumn, the weather was rivalling with that of my home city - it brought some nostalgia; I was about to take a glance at my phone but was interrupted by another yell.
