Mystic and Astaria compared schedules as they walked in the door of the first-period class. They saw that in every class they had together, they had an equal amount they didn't have together.
Upon entering the chemistry room, Mystic noted that she had to start the day with both Dylan and Sebastian. Sebastian stared at her as if he were a kid on Christmas morning, while Dylan looked mad that she had walked into his first period.
She rolled her eyes as she walked to an empty desk she noticed was near the back of the room and near Sebastian, across from a blond boy with blue eyes. He looked nothing like Dylan, and she wondered if he might be cool to hang out with. He turned out to be exactly what she had imagined him to be after she only sat at her desk for a few minutes and he tossed her a paper football on top of her desk. Laughing at the neat handwriting that demanded that she open it. Mystic unfolded the paper and saw words that stated "Hi I'm Ryan, and you are?"
Quickly replying with one-word Trouble, Mystic folded up the paper into a football and tossed it back onto Ryan's desk, where it landed with a soft 'thump'.Out of the corner of her eye, she could see Sebastian's jaw twitching in irritation. When she noticed that it had to do with the fact that she had been talking to another guy after rejecting his offer of friendship, she just rolled her eyes and relaxed back in her chair.
She passed the note back and forth with Ryan throughout the class period. Near the end of class, she received another note that was passed along to her from Sebastian.
Just as she was about to write back, the bell rang. So, she stuck the note into her purse and picked up everything she had left on the table before heading out into the hallway. The hall was booming with the sounds of sneakers squeaking as the students were all hurrying to their lockers while simultaneously trying to get to their next class within the school's walls. Busy teachers were running back and forth across the compact hall making sure everyone had a thing or two secured in their lockers. Sighing, Mystic walked over to where Astaria stood leaning against a row of lockers. Smiling at her, Astaria said, "I noticed you and Ryan were passing notes around in Chemistry. Is there anything I need to know?"
Raising her eyebrows and cocking her head to the side in question, Astaria looked at Mystic and gave her a look that plainly said, You were saying? Mystic shrugged lightly off Ryan's arm and explained to Astaria what has happened.
"Eh, nah, nothing really important is going on here," Mystic sighed as she watched Ryan roll his eyes skeptically, glaring at him before saying, "Okay then, Ryan knows I have a brother that went here two years ago."
"Your brother used to go here? Who is your brother? Oh, Trevor Lake is your brother! "Astaria said with excitement dripping from her voice.
Only a certain type of person would know who Trevor was and what it meant to be his sister, and when the pieces started fitting together for Astaria. You could see how she began to radiate excitement from within.
Trevor was this part of town's longest-reigning underground fighter and the number one challenger, he is currently undefeated. Mystic hadn't seen him since he moved to Traveler's Crossroads two years ago, and she honestly had no intention of seeing him. It was plain to her that her new friends did not share the same sentiments that she had. By the look on Astaria's face, she knew what the blue-eyed girl was going to ask before she had even said it.
Mystic shook her head denied telling the pair "No," she said, I will not introduce you to him because I will not have everyone learning about my connection to him. Do you understand?"
Ryan and Astaria obviously didn't really understand why Mystic kept her connection to Trevor a secret, but they nodded their heads as if they understood anyways.
With relief, Mystic sighed and headed off towards her next class. Hoping her friends would let the subject go and not force her to tell them why she wanted her relationship to Trevor to remain private.
