"Let me see if I got this right," I say after setting down my glass of apple juice on the table beside my plate of food. "You can move things with your mind?"
Ashton nods and I sit back in my seat in disbelief. "How? I thought vampires could just run super fast and are super strong?"
"Vampires you read about, sure." Ashton nods. "But vampires in this world have extra, unique powers."
"Some even have multiple unique powers." Michael chimes in and I look between the three of them with fascinated eyes.
"So every vampire is just given a unique power?" I asks, cutting into my stack of pancakes while I listen.
"Not exactly." Ashton starts. "Your unique power depends on two things. One, how you died. Two, who turned you."
My chewing slows as I comprehend what he's saying. "I don't fully understand.." I mumble through a full mouth of pancake.
"You always get a unique power that relates to how you died, which is what makes every vampires power so unique in the first place. However, in order to become a vampire you must be bitten and have vampire venom in your blood either before you die or while you're dying." Ashton says and as he's explaining my hand moves to my neck and my fingers graze across the bandage I had put over the bite mark last night.
"Oh don't worry, you won't become a vampire if you die." Michael assures me. "I just bit you, I didn't inject venom. There's a difference."
"Good to know." I nod and then look to Ashton for him to continue his story.
"When a vampire bites you to turn you, not all the time, but sometimes you can possess the same power that vampire has. Like for an example, I can move things with my mind. If you were dying and I bit you to turn you, there is a 50/50 chance that you too will have the power of telekinesis."
"Oh that's so cool!" I exclaim after I swallow the apple juice I had been drinking. "Did you get the telekinesis power from the vampire that turned you?" I ask in curiosity.
"No." Ashton shakes his head and a sudden empty feeling covers the room like a blanket. "I got my power from how I died."
"We all did." Calum speaks up with a low, empty voice as he stares at his plate.
"Um.. How did you.."
"Die?" Ashton smiles softly. "Its not a bad word. We've all come to terms with our deaths. Well, except Luke but his story is a different story. But I'll tell you mine.."
Ashton's POV
Three Hundred Forty-Nine years ago...
"Alright, I'm on my way right now." I say to my mother who's on the other end of the phone. "I love you too." I hang up the call with a smile on my face.
Talking to my mother was always nice since we don't see each other often, but today I was going to make the eight hour drive to see her. It was her birthday tomorrow and I knew seeing me would be the best gift she could ever ask for, especially since we haven't seen each other in about a year.
I unlock my car with my keys and then climb into the drivers seat, setting my phone in the passengers seat as I do so. I start the engine, then I pull onto the road and begin my drive.
"Making my way down town, walking fast, faces pass and I'm home bound!" I sing along with the radio, not caring what anyone who sees me thinks. I roll my window down and stick my arm out, moving it with the wind while I drive.
