Phoenix Special Chapter: Young Derek Hale and Star Stilinski One Shot!

Star

Bending down and picking up the notebook that Derek dropped, I couldn't help but furrow my eyebrows as I saw a name written at the last page of Derek's notebook. The bell had rung and everyone left the classroom but I stayed behind since I saw this notebook. Derek is still young, we still couldn't find out why but we figured that maybe if we let him go to school, he'll slowly remember everything and return to the adult Derek Hale.

Curiosity got the best of me and I flipped the notebook open to the last page. There I saw a name written neatly in calligraphy.

Paige Krasikeva

I don't know anyone named Paige Krasikeva but obviously, Derek does. Shaking my head, I close the notebook and got out of the classroom, on a mission to find Derek. He's probably at the music room again, I often find him there holding either a cello or a triangle bell. I always ask why he's there but he never tells me, he either distracts me by telling me to sing for him or we check out the instruments and try to play them.

I push the doors of the music room open and as expected, there's Derek. Holding the cello again. His chemo signals are sad, grief and anger.

"Derek?" I softly call, making him look up. "You okay?"

I heard him sigh and nod his head, looking back at the cello. "I'm fine."

Pursing my lips into a thin line for a second, I walk towards him and hand him his notebook. "You dropped this,"

Derek takes the notebook and placed it on the table. He was about to touch the cello again, when my next question stopped him. "Who's Paige?"

I felt him tense up when he heard the name. His chemo signals became stronger, his anger became stronger and so did his grief and sadness.

I placed my hand on his shoulder and knelt down, trying to look at his eyes. He wouldn't look at me, but I can see his eyes were tearing up. Seeing Derek like this is heartbreaking. I've never seen him this emotional before.

"We don't have to talk about her if you don't want—"

Derek looked at my eyes and that's when the tears fell. Next thing I knew, he was hugging me. His head was nuzzled onto my neck as I felt tears dripping down on my skin. Whimpers escaped Derek's mouth as I hug back, caressing his back as I let him cry.

Whoever Paige Krasikeva is, she left a hard impact on Derek.

"Let it all out," I whispered. "It's okay."

That's when I heard Derek Hale sob for the first time.

"I couldn't..." Derek sobbed. "I-I couldn't protect her. She was my everything, b-but I couldn't protect her from everything."

"Derek, stop." My voice was soft and calming as I pull away from our hug. "Stop blaming everything on yourself."

I wiped Derek's tears away with the pad of my thumb as he looks down, frowning. I made him look up using my hand, and he looked directly into my eyes.

"Paige was my first love," Derek said, the tone of his voice was heartbreaking to hear. You can feel that he's really broken and grieving. "She died in my arms."

I could only imagine how painful it was for Derek to hold the love of his life in his arms as she died. "S-She was bitten by an alpha. I thought the bite would work and that she'll become like me... but it didn't."

"Star... I had to." When I realized what he was talking about, I felt my heart break. I know now why Derek became a cold person. It was because he had to kill Paige to put her out of misery. He had to kill the girl he loved so much. "She couldn't... she couldn't take it anymore a-and she asked me to... to end it. To end the pain."

Derek started sobbing again and I couldn't help but put my hands on the either side of his face, putting my forehead on his as I tried to calm him down.

He calmed down a bit and looked directly into my eyes, his eyes were still tearing up and there were still tears escaping his eyes. You can see the pain in his eyes. Derek Hale is truly broken. And now, I understand why.

I felt Derek lean in but I didn't stop him, nor did I lean away. I just let him lean in, closer and closer, till our lips were centimeters apart.

Just when his lips were about to touch mine, the sound of the school bell had rung, indicating that lunch time was over. We both stayed quiet for a moment, processing what we were about to do.

"We should... probably go to class?" Derek mumbled, but didn't lean away from our current position.

Gulping, I felt how dry my throat had become. "W-We probably should."

Reluctantly leaning back, I stood up and so did Derek. We stood there, face to face, before I looked and backed away. Derek grabbed his bag and we both exit the music room, going on our separate ways because we had different classes.

And as I made my way to the classroom, I couldn't help but touch my lips and imagined what would have happened if Derek and I kissed.
