Pacifica's POV

The floorboard creeped loudly as we took the first step. I really hoped my hand wasn't sweating too much. The house was dark...the lights weren't on. Cobwebs hung from the ceiling. I flinched back against the door as a rat skittered in front of my feet.

"It's okay," Dipper reassured. "The rat won't kill you."

I glared at him.

The lights were dark...no...they weren't completely shut...one of them stood flickering ominously in the kitchen. There was a rocking chair stationed in front of a fireplace. The weirdest thing was...

The fire's embers were still burning on the logs.

When I noticed this I squeezed Dipper's hand and pointed. I couldn't see his reaction.

"We should probably get out of here," I whisper-yelled.

"No," Dipper whispered back, letting go of my hand to investigate the fireplace. "There might be something important here."

My itchy throat was really acting up with all the dust inside the house. I sneezed loudly multiple times, and  cringed. Nothing happened.

"Look," Dipper called, and I noticed he had moved to the back of the shack. I carefully picked my way over to him.

"There's stairs," he said excitedly. "Let's go,"

"No!" I said, suddenly and impulsively taking hold of his hand. "I can't let you,"

"Why not?" He asked, sounding annoyed.

"What if...what if you die up there?" I asked, noticed how completely stupid I sounded.

"Oh please, Pacifica. I'm going up. You can just sit down here and do whatever you want."

With that he tugged free of my hold and sprinted up the stairs.

I made my way to the rocking chair and took a seat.

I waited for what felt like hours, though I'm guessing it was more like ten minutes.

Suddenly, I heard someone scream.

It was oddly feminine.

Right. That was Dipper.

At the jolt of realization I ran up the stairs as fast as my legs could carry me.
