Prologue

12:45 p.m. Time for lunch in any regular high school. Students rush out of their classes, eager to fill their stomachs, which have been begging for food as soon as classes started. Some have their own food, having brought it from home, while others rush to form a line in front of the steaming food prepared for them by the school.

This is what any normal high school student would be experiencing at this time. I would know. I was one. Emphasis on the was. I am no longer part of the millions of students that wait for their lunch break, to see their friends, and fill their starving stomachs.

I am not a dropout, free of the endless studying brought upon these teenagers by their classes, never needing to watch the clock to see when they are free.

Rather, I look at something else each and everyday. Something that changes slower than a clock.

My normal life of staring at a clock waiting for it to reach 12:45 p.m, and then later, 3:00 p.m., has been traded for a life of staring at a calendar, waiting for it to reach the day I am free.

Free of this prison of disease.

Free of this hospital.
