"Welcome Home!" Stacy's cheery voice echos in the large house. I was shocked to find that her house, which I have come to realize is only occupied by herself, is this large. It does however, add more reasoning to why she decided to take me in. I mean she has the room, and now she has company.
"You have a wonderful house Stacy." I admit. After getting over the initial shock of it's size, I took in the beauty of the dark hardwood floors, and the light walls covered in photos and art work.
I see her smile at my remark, and wheel around the house a bit more, and find a picture of Stacy and a young boy.
"Who's the boy in the picture?" She walks over to where I am standing, and looks at the picture, a smile creeping on her face.
"That's Evan, he's my sister's son."
"He's adorable."
"Isn't he?" We both giggle at the adorable boy, and then sit in silence as I admire Stacy's beauty in the picture, and Stacy looks at her nephew, memories obviously flooding back.
"Why don't we head in the kitchen for some food?" Stacy breaks the silence with a remark regarding one of my favorite things on the plant; FOOD.
I have an odd love for food. I was allowed to go into the doctors lounge and cook for the doctors and nurses a lot while at the hospital. I was mainly kept in the hospital so they could keep track of my recovery after the paralysis, and to keep me somewhere since I had no home, so I had a lot more freedom than any normal patient I guess this constant cooking and time spent with food, fueled my love for it even more.
"Do you like to cook?" I ask Stacy as she wheels me into the kitchen.
"Oh I love it! It's been one of my hobbies for as long as I can remember."
"I love it too! I did a lot of cooking in the hospital."
"Look at that! We found something in common. I have a feeling our love for food is going to take us a long way. Don't you think?"
I chuckle, once again overwhelmed at Stacy's kindness before adding, "Definitely."
"Why don't we cook dinner together tonight! We can get to know each other along the way."
"Sounds great!" And from there we never stopped talking. After deciding on pasta for dinner, we just started talking to each other as though we were best friends reunited after so long.
Stacy set up the table, as I finished up the pasta, and we sat down and enjoyed the food that we made. Throughout dinner we continued to "catch up", and at one point both started laughing so hard, that Stacy fell out of her chair.
As Stacy was cleaning up, I went to my room to check it out and put my things away.
"Do you like it?" I hear from behind me.
"I love it." I admit, mesmerized by the beautiful white and gray room, there was a large bed that was just the right height for me to easily get off and on my chair. It was covered in beautiful white sheets and gray throw pillows and a knitted gray blanket not top.
My eyes moved to the next corner of my room where there was a beautiful, large desk filled with pens and different types of highlighters, paper, and school supplies. There was no chair and I noticed that once again the desk worked perfectly with my wheel chair.
The whole room was so beautiful and my favorite part was the circular chair hanging from the ceiling. It was filled with pillows and a little place to keep a cup of tea.
"Did you do this all yourself?" I ask, still in awe of the room I never thought I'd have.
"With a little help from the cute little boy from earlier."
"I turn my chair so that it's facing Stacy and say sincerely, "Thank you thank you thank you!"
I spent the rest of the night lying on my bed reading, something I got more and more into as I spent more and more time in the hospital. I had a few days before school started, and decided to do the summer reading.
The next few days mainly consist of shopping for clothes, school supplies, and doing some homework before school.
The day I got in the crash was the most terrifying day of my life. I thought that nothing could ever freak me out more than that day. Oh was I wrong.
Somehow, lying here on my bed, the night before the first day of school, I can't fall asleep, anxiety bubbling away in my stomach.
*What if they don't like me? What if they make fun of me for being paralyzed? What if I don't find any friends? What if I'm so behind they place a year back?*
These endless what if's circulated all through my head, keeping me awake.
Somehow, my brain decided it was worn out, and slowly, I fell asleep, the anxiety leaving my mind for a few short hours until the next morning.
"Thea, sweetie, its time to get up for school. I've made pancakes!" Having planned to ignore this wake up call, not wanting to go to school, the smell and mention of pancakes jolts me up.
Fully awake, I start to slip on my black ripped jeans, white off the shoulder shirt, and I grab a extra white sweatshirt just in case I get dress coded (something I have not missed from high school these past few years) or get cold.
I get into my wheel chair, with slight help from Stacy, grab my things, and we head into the kitchen for pancakes; the only thing I live for - well, other than pasta, pizza, noodles, clothing, and stationary.
Breakfast passes by easily, with me mostly distracted by Stacy's comforting chat, and next thing I know, Stacy and I are in her Jeep, heading to school.
Along the way, Stacy just gives me some information about the school, and then we arrive at the front gate.
"Let's get this day over with." I huff out. Stacy gives me a high five, and we head into the school, Stacy's white heals clanking on the ground with each step, and me wheeling myself in ready to conquer the second most terrifying day of my life.
A/N : Hey y'all! I'm back with another update! I hope you enjoy! (Sorry this chapter is a bit boring, I just want to set things up before getting into the real juicy parts ;) ) Please remember to vote and comment!
