"I can't believe we're being forced to work today," Anthony complained, leaning back in his chair with a heavy sigh, "Honestly, our family is in the midst of a crisis! Have some compassion, chief!"
"Would you quit complaining?" Jacob scowled, pushing against the back of Anthony's chair, "Honestly, it's bad enough our desks are so close, and bad enough I'm on house arrest, I don't need you whining directly in my ear."
He kicked Anthony's chair so it slid across the floor a few feet to his own desk, then turned back to his work while Anthony folded his arms, a pout on his lips, "It's your own fault for getting distracted by my cousin."
Jacob looked over at him like he was an idiot, "Your what?"
"My cousin," Anthony leaned forward in his chair, arching an eyebrow, "Use that brain of yours and think. Cou-sin."
Jacob's eyes went wide, and he turned in his seat, slamming his head against his desk, "Everet! Fuck, how'd I not notice?!"
"Because you have the mental capacity of a Kieran," Anthony said, and Emmet chuckled in his seat.
Jacob raised both eyebrows and whistled, "Dude, you got Mr. Broody to laugh."
Anthony reeled back, looking insulted, "Excuse you, I am his brother, I can make him do anything!" he turned in his seat to face Emmet, lifting his hands and hooking both pointer fingers into the corners of his mouth, pulling them in opposite directions and sticking his tongue out, "Nya!"
Emmet propped his elbow against his desk and set his cheek on his fist, smiling as he watched Anthony make several strange yet characteristic faces, all too used to his younger siblings antics. In fact, he kind of enjoyed it when Anthony acted so childish. Anthony was pushing his nose up like a pig with the palm of his hand and crossing his eyes when one of the lower ranking intern cops stepped up, stopping behind Jacob and clearing his throat to get their attention.
"Detective Everet, there are-," he stopped as Anthony turned to him, nose still pushed up and the top row of his teeth and gums showing, "Uh....there are some....people here to....uh, see you...," he said, staring at Anthony with a freaked out expression.
Jacob leaned back and patted the man's back sympathetically, "Get used to it, intern."
"I'd rather not."
"Who came to see which Everet? There are two of us," Anthony asked and, much to the intern's relief, let his face return to its normal position, leaning over the back of his chair with his arms folded over it, "Are they here for the Everet who's drop dead gorgeous with a body that won't quit, or Emmet?" Emmet snorted and rolled his eyes as he sat back, returning to his work as Anthony stuck his tongue out at him, "Bitch please, I rock this body."
Emmet merely chuckled as the intern looked between them uncertainly, "Uh...they're...here to see Emmet Everet."
"Hm, people here to see my big brother," Anthony tilted his head to the side, "Intriguing. Is it Collin? He knows he can just come up, right?"
"Is what me?"
The intern jumped and staggered to the side, grabbing his chest and gasping at the sudden voice from behind him, spinning around to see Collin standing there with his hands in his jacket pockets, an eyebrow raised in curiosity.
"Oh, guess not," Anthony shrugged and waved with a smile, "How ya doing, cray cray?"
"Quit calling me that," Collin scowled and stepped over to Kieran's seat, grabbing his empty chair and pulling it out a bit so it was in front of the desks that Anthony and Emmet had up against each other, sitting down between the two brothers and folding his arms as he looked over at Anothony, "What were you talking about?"
