"Mr. Creed is...," Seth gaped at Mary-Louise, who smiled and nodded in confirmation.
"His biological father," Annabelle finished, and Mary-Louise laughed softly.
"Yea. It took a while, but I convinced him to come down here and tell him. It's been so long, and Zeke so loves his boy. He's just... so used to losing things, he forgot he could fight to keep them."
"That's sad," Casey whispered, and Mary-Louise nodded.
"Yes, it is."
"But Cal has his dad!" Annabelle jumped up in excitement, "He'll be so happy!"
"I don't know," Seth drew his brow together, "His last dad tried to kill him."
Annabelle glared at him, "That's not funny."
"It wasn't supposed to be."
"A lot has happened, hasn't it?" Casey asked softly, and everyone looked at him as he stroked the side of Lex's face softly, "It seems like yesterday I was alone... scared. Now I have friends, family... and so much tragedy."
"In the end, everything will be alright," Seth said, "Nothing's over yet, angel."
Casey sniffed, rubbing at his eyes, "I know, but... everything feels so dark, and I just want things to be normal again. Why'd he have to get shot?"
"Because that man is nothing but evil," Seth answered, "And he had terrible aim."
"Which is why Lex isn't dead right now," Annabelle added, "Let's be happy for that at least."
"I want him to wake up."
"He needs rest," Seth said, and Casey sniffed again, "He will wake up, he just needs a bit more rest."
"No one here can get any rest with you people blabbing."
Everyone froze, and Casey choked, covering his mouth as Lex winced and opened his eyes, "Lex?"
"How long have you been awake?" Seth asked in a whisper.
Lex smiled up at Casey and squeezed his hand, "Not long," he answered quietly, and Casey threw himself over his body, arms wrapping around him and face buried in his shoulder as he cried.
"Lex!"
Lex wound his arms around Casey's shoulders and the middle of his back, turning his face so it was buried in his black hair, "Hey Casey."
Casey cried like that for a while, and when he sat up, he smacked Lex on the arm, "Don't ever scare me like that again!" he yelled, then went back to hugging Lex, who closed his eyes and nodded.
"I'll do my best," he promised, looking over at Seth sleepily, "What was it I heard about Cal's son of a bitch dad?"
"Ah, not Matthew Shaw," Seth reassured, waving his hands, "You were asleep for a while. Cal's biological father is... Mr. Creed."
Lex's eyes widened before narrowing, and his lips pulled into a scowl, "Then why was Cal with a neglecting psychopath? Where was the asshole when Cal needed him?"
"Don't you dare assume my brother abandoned him!" Mary-Louise hissed, and Lex looked over at her in disinterest as Casey propped himself up on his elbows.
"That's Mr. Creed's little sister, a nurse. She's been looking out for you. Mr. Creed is nice, remember?"
Lex grunted and pulled Casey back down, "I'll be the judge of that."
"Not after just waking up you won't," Mary-Louise scolded, "You need to rest. You lost quite a bit of blood, and you need to heal. No lecturing or being suspicious of my brother until you're healthy enough to do so!"
