Hours had passed since Dr. Marin finished the surgery and brought Lex into his hospital room, and no one had moved or attempted to leave the room since. Casey hadn't seen Kieran since he'd left to talk to Dante, and though he was worried about him, he'd lost two friends after all, he was sure he was alright. Seth had said he was fine, and the red tint to his cheeks was a pretty good indication as to how Kieran actually was. Perfectly fine.
"Doc Marin said he'd wake up in no time," Cal reassured Casey from where he was sitting with Annabelle across the room from the foot of Lex's bed, where two chairs were against the wall, "You haven't really slept much at all. Why not lie down with him, close your eyes?"
Casey just shook his head in rejection, "It's been days."
"Hasn't been that long," Cal said, and Seth stopped his pacing to stand beside his worried friend.
"Everything will be okay, Casey," he said, and Casey chewed on his bottom lip, looking down at where his hand was holding onto Lex's tightly.
Cal nodded in agreement as he laid his head against Annabelle's shoulder, shutting his eyes and letting out a heavy sigh, "He's strong, angel, you know that."
"I do, I do know that," Casey nodded, more to reassure himself than to show he understood, "That won't stop me from worrying."
"It shouldn't," Seth laughed a little, wrapping an arm around Casey's shoulders and kissing his temple, "It'll be okay."
"I'll never stop seeing it," Casey shuddered, rubbing his eyes and squeezing Lex's hand tighter, like he thought if he let go then the heart monitor beside the bed would flatline, "Ever."
"I don't blame you," Seth nodded, "If it were me... I'd lose it."
"Me too," Cal said, and Annabelle smacked him.
"Both of you knock it off!" she hissed, turning her head to look over at where Sam was sitting in a chair against the wall where the door was, his feet up on the chair and his knees hugged against his chest.
Cal coughed awkwardly into his hand as Annabelle gave him a scolding look, "Sorry sweets."
"It's fine," Sam said, not raising his head to look at anyone, instead keeping his eyes one the screen of his phone.
A look of pity flickered onto Annabelle's face, and Casey looked over at their friend, "How is he?"
Sam bit his bottom lip and lowered his phone, holding it against his chest and not replying for the longest time, "He's... he's not waking up."
"It'll probably take some time," Seth said softly, "I mean, with the injury he has, it's a miracle he survived. Let's be happy for that at least."
Sam didn't make a move to respond at all, and instead looked back down at his phone, hitting a few things before putting it to his ear, his eyes far away as he seemed to be listening to something. The other four in the room exchanged uneasy and pitied expressions, but no words were exchanged, and the room lapsed into a peaceful silence that broke with the opening door.
Casey looked up and his eyes grew wide when he saw Ezekiel was behind Mary-Louise, "Mr. Creed? What are you doing here?"
Ezekiel just gave a weak smile, "I came to see how everyone was. Is everything alright? How are Mr. Divine and Mr. Mitchelle?"
Casey hesitated before looking down at Lex, pushing back his brown hair, "He's... he's alive, and he should be fine. Doctor Marin said he'd wake up in no time. We just... have to be patient."
"Chris is still... unconscious," Seth added, looking at Sam with his lips tight together.
"Yes," Ezekiel nodded with hesitation, looking over at Sam before stepping further into the room, "I... kind of expected that, he was badly hurt after all."
