I am forced to watch the fight, helpless. There is no way Phil can win against Brayden. He doesn't have powers like everyone else here. Or at least not yet he doesn't. How is he going to defend himself against a man of pure rock? I attempt to stand, but I can't. I'm powerless against what is about to happen next.
Brayden sprints at Phil at top speed, causing the ground to tremble. Phil looks even paler than usual, as if he had just seen Babadook.
Brayden punches Phil in the chest, sending him flying across the room. He slams into the wall with full force, which knocks him to the ground. He groans loudly and rolls over on to his back. His face is horrifically bloody. I think I'm about to vomit.
He walks over to him in a few strides, lifts him up, and throws him across the room. He slides across the floor, hitting the other wall. Before Brayden can reach him again, Phil hesitantly stands. His legs are wobbling and his hands are shaking prefusely. My eyes begin to well up with tears. I need to do something, I can't just sit here and watch him get killed!
It takes all my strength to get up. I lean on the wall for support, which is not that much help. I try to get to Phil as fast as I can, to protect him, to do anything! Everyone's attention is turned to me as I fast-walk (more like fast-limp) to Phil.
The guards begin to walk towards me to block my path, but Chris halts them over the loudspeaker.
"Let him."
Those two words send the guards back to their places around the room.
Brayden stops in his tracks and turns to me. His stone-cold expression turns into a smirk when he sees me, and he chuckles. I stand between him and Phil.
"If you want to get to him, you're gonna have to go through me first," I challenge.
My hands are still in these cuffs, which seem to prevent me from using my powers. I guess I'll have to work with what I've got.
"Aw, how cute, trying to protect your little boyfriend. It's not going to end well, pretty boy," Brayden threatens.
"Well, I guess we'll have to see who it doesn't end well for," I respond.
It doesn't take long to realize who it wasn't going to end well for. In two steps, Brayden is up against me, lifting me up by the neck, restraining my air flow.
Before I can even react, I am flown across the room, just like Phil a minute ago. This action has knocked the wind out of me, and I am unable to move.
Suddenly, an ear piercing scream fills the room.
I have never heard such a scream in my life. It was the most horrible, excrusiating wail that I could ever imagine. It takes me a moment to realize that the scream did not belong to Phil, but to Brayden.
It takes a lot of effort but I manage to turn my head. When I do so, I see Brayden hunched over, crying out in agony. Phil's eyes are glowing, like mine had apparently when I had used my powers. Nothing seems to be happening to Brayden physically, so Phil must be mutilating him from the inside.
"Get out! Get out!" Brayden falls on the floor, continuing to scream in pain.
"I surrender, I surrender!" Brayden exclaims after a few seconds.
Phil's eyes stop glowing, and his face softens a little. The guards jog over to Brayden to drag him away, like they had done to Madison.
As Brayden is dragged past me, I notice he is crying and shaking. He is also whispering to himself, like a schizophrenic would. What the hell did Phil do to the kid?
Phil is suddenly lifting me up off the ground and supporting me so I can stand. I groan in pain, literally everything is soar right now. I glance up at Chris quickly. He looks scared and amazed at the same time.
Two guards then come over and cuff Phil with the the same glowing cuffs I am wearing. It's strange how only Phil and I have to wear them. Everyone else has on the glowing bracelet that I wore when I was put in that machine. They take us by the arms, and bring us back to our cells. Everyone else is escorted back too. Murmurs and whispers fill the corridors. It reminds me of when Phil and I were first officially together in school.
"What the hell did Phil do to him?"
"I feel so bad for Brayden, even if he was a dick."
"I wonder how Laura is going to take this."
"If I ever have to go against Phil, I'll just surrender right then and there."
"Phil is fucking terrifying, and I heard rumors that Dan is too."
Phil and I are thrown into our cell harshly. When the guards shut the door, Phil and I begin to speak at the same time.
"What the fuck-" I begin.
"Dan, it was insane-"
We both gesture for the other to talk, but Phil winds up speaking first.
"I was in his head. I could hear his thoughts and I could see everything. His memories. his thoughts, his feelings, they were all under my control."
"What did you do to him?"
"I... don't know. I was destroying him from the inside, I guess. Both physically and mentally."
"That is..." I search for the right words, but I decide to go with "fucked up".
"Yeah, I know. I felt terrible doing it to him. But he hurt you, and that just made me really angry, and I guess I just channeled that rage and... used it to my advantage."
I nod. The same thing happened with me. When Phil had gotten hurt, something else took over me, and my powers had emerged.
Phil and I sit in silence on his bed for about five minutes until the cell door is opened. Four guards stand there. All of them look terrified.
"Chris requests your prescence, Phil," one of them says, his voice a little shaky.
They need four guards to escort Phil because he's dangerous. They're scared of him, and what he can do.
They're scared of me, and what I can do.
And they have every damn right to be.
Sorry I keep going on these long breaks. I promise I'm going to try and write a lot this summer. Let me know in the comments what you think so far! Tysm for reading.
See you next chapter! <3
