Charlie arrived at the maze like the rest of the Gladers: in a metal crate with no memories. She's quickly accepted by the other Gladers as she proves that she is tougher than she may first appear. Charlie quickly earns her place among some of the top Gladers, and just as quickly becomes close friend with them, one more than the rest.
Don't be fooled however, this isn't a damsel in distress type of story. Charlie doesn't need saving, but she is needed to save the rest of the Gladers.
