It's the last week of December and winter is almost upon the precious island of Jeju-Do.
Snow falls, covering the grassy land in a blanket of white yet cold snow. Kids dressed in their fluffy winter attires, happily plays around the playground. Throwing snowballs and building snowmans, their cheery laughters and happy chattering filled the still mild atmosphere.
At a coffee shop, not far from the playground, sat Mrs. Jwa alone. A steaming hot coffee sitting infront of her, ignored as she watched the happy children from the slightly foggy window of the coffee shop.
A sigh came from Mrs. Jwa and evident on her eyes is the longing. Nothing but longing and utter sadness. One child caught Mrs. Jwa's gaze and he smiled brightly towards the older lady. His chubby cheeks are slightly red from staying out in the cold for so long but nonetheless he looked very adorable.
The little boy gave a cute wave that Mrs. Jwa's heart swell with emotions. Unwanted Memories resurfacing in her mind and her sadness deepens, still she forced a smile and waved back to the child.
There was a sound of a chair moving and Mrs. Jwa looked away just as the little boy went back to playing with the other kids.
Sighing again, Mrs. Jwa began mindlessly began stirring the spoon in her coffee.
"Mom, are you sure you don't want anything else? I could go buy you a cheesecake if you want."
Mrs. Jwa averted her eyes from her coffee to the person now sitting infront of her. She just smiled and shook her head no.
"It's okay sweetie. I'm not hungry anyways." Mrs. Jwa takes a sip of her coffee as the person infront of her just sighs.
A waiter came to them and gave them the bill. Mrs. Jwa immediately went to open her bag but as she rummage through her stuffs, a familiar white envelop came to her sight and she stops moving all of a sudden.
The person sitting infront of Mrs. Jwa, her daughter Sojeong, saw her mother's sudden change of behaviour and she also took notice of the envelope her mother is now holding.
The waiter cleared his throat and Sojeong just rolled her eyes as she brought her own wallet out and payed for their bill instead. The waiter bowed and left, leaving the mother and daughter in a now solemn mood.
Mainly from Mrs. Jwa as Sojeong was trying not to let her emotions out. It's hard enough to see her mother this sad, she didn't want to add to that sadness. Not now.
"Dear.......should i....." Mrs. Jwa held the envelope tightly and Sojeong immediately recognized the look that her mother is giving her.
"Mom we've talked about this already. Yes you should do it."
"But what if–"
Sojeong slams her wallet on the table, startling the people sitting nearby and her mother.
"Mom please. We've already decided. We're gonna do this. We can't back out now, please." Sojeong's voice slightly cracked at the end as she fights the emotions now threathening to breakfree.
"Sojeong I just don't think i can do this anymore. It already drove Jinyeol away from us. Your younger sister won't talk to me and it's all because of this damn letter!" Slowly, Mrs. Jwa began tearing up and then one by one, the tears began to fall.
"That was her choice mom! It's our not fault that she can't accept it! Mom....that letter needs to go too." Sojeong is trying so hard to fight the tears back, the memory of when she wrote the letter came crashing down on her.
Mrs. Jwa didn't answer, she just hold onto the letter. Still with tears running down her face. Neither of them cared that the other customers were now watching them.
Sojeong leaned forward and reached for one of her mother's hand, holding onto it. "Mom, It needs to go."
"But I don't want to hurt him" Mrs. Jwa whimpered in her tears.
Sojeong sighs." I know Mom, i don't want to do it either but Mom this is the only way to solve everything. Please Mom."
Finally, a tear fell from Sojeong's eyes and it run down her cheeks, the tear drop landing on her and her mother's held hands.
Mrs. Jwa eventually gave in."Okay."
Sojeong smiled and without disconnecting their hands, she moved around the table and sat beside her mother, giving her side hug and they held each other tight.
They pulled away from the hug and Sojeong takes the envelope from her mother." I'll go send this now, wait for me here....okay?"
Mrs. Jwa smiled. "Okay"
Just as Sojeong was about to leave, Mrs. Jwa called her name making her daughter turned around.
"Tell Vernon I said Hi." Mrs. Jwa smiled through her tear stained face.
Sojeong smiled and nodded her head.
"I will"
