Love Conquers All

When I was 16, my family threw me out of my house. Why? Because I disgust them. Because I go against God’s word. Because I am an awful aberration of nature. You’re probably thinking it’s because I’m a murderer, or the leader of some satanic cult. You’re wrong. It’s because I’m gay.

My name is Keith. I’m 17 now, so I’ve been by myself for about a year. Don’t worry, I don’t need your sympathy, I’ve got friends. I moved in with my friend Shiro, who’s like a brother to me. Shiro introduced me to Lance, which was the most perfect moment of my life. Lance.... is now my boyfriend and I couldn’t be happier.

Speak of the devil.

Lance knocked on my door and I walked over, beaming. He looked amazing, even though he was just wearing a t-shirt and jeans, and he was holding a little box of chocolates.

“Hey Keith!” he grinned as I opened the door.

He walked in and kissed me, throwing the chocolates in my sofa and taking my hand. We were so in tune that he knew exactly what to do with any gifts. I wasn’t really the gift sort of person, but Lance, being as amazing as he is, is a proper gentleman.

“C’mon, Keith, let’s go!” He smiled.

We ended up, just walking around the funfair that had moved into town, holding hands. Lance was holding a giant teddy-bear that I had won him, when he stopped and looked ‘straight’ into my eyes.

“I love you Keith,” he whispered.

“I love you too,” I replied.

It would have been the perfect romantic moment, except for what happened next. Lance jerked away and cried out in pain, cupping one hand over his cheek. I jumped, horrified to see blood creeping down his perfect face. I glared over at the man standing there with rocks in his hand.

Furious, I also noticed my parents watching from the sidelines with cold disinterest, my sister, Ally, next to them. She seemed horrified, and ready to run over and defend me, but my dad had gripped her wrist. I ignored them, it wasn’t like they were my family anyway.

I stalked up to the group, glaring at them.

“What the hell!” I yelled.

I could see Lance from behind me, wincing in pain as he touched his cheek.

“Why the hell would you do that!” I shouted.

The man with the stones leered at me, launching another stone. It was a long sharp one and it hit my cheek. It hurt like hell, and I could feel it bleeding.

“Fucking f*****s!” He levered. (A/N I couldn't bring myself to write this slur so you fill in the blanks)

That was it. The last straw. I got right up in his face and started yelling at him. I can’t even remember what I was shouting, but I knew Lance had come up behind me and had one hand on my shoulder, to tell me to calm down. The man was yelling too, until eventually it got too much for him and he punched me, right in the face.

It hurt like hell. I stumbled back, one hand over my face, spitting blood. Lance gasped and grabbed me, shouting like crazy at the man. I was in a state of shock, completely distracted by my aching nose, but I heard another, feminine voice join in the argument. I looked up in surprise to see Ally yelling too, and the man eventually decided it wasn’t worth it, and he backed up and ran off.

“Keith, honey, are you okay?” Lance asked as soon as the man turned around.

“Yep,” I groaned and stood up ‘straight’.

I looked at Ally who was smiling shyly.

“Thanks, Ally,” I said.

She grinned at me and Lance, before my dad appeared and put a hand on Ally’s shoulder, glaring at me. I ignored him, instead examining the cut on Lance’s cheek.

“Are you okay?” I asked him, concerned.

He nodded and took my hand, still staring into my eyes. I could feel myself blushing.

“I’m sorry, about that,” I blurted, but Lance just made an odd noise and pulled me into a hug. I rested my head on his shoulder.

“Don’t you dare,” he whispered. “Don’t you dare say you’re sorry. You’ve got nothing to be sorry for. It wasn’t your fault in any way: just that vile, bigoted ignorant idiot. And look,” he said softly.

I looked up and saw the man who had attacked us being approached by a police officer. He was yelling and gesturing, but she was having none of it. I grinned as she put him in handcuffs and forced him into the back of her car. Then, I looked at Lance.

“You shouldn’t be sorry, Keith,” he whispered, grinning. “You’re absolutely perfect, just the way you are.”

He barely finished his sentence before I leaned in and kissed him. He melted into it but someone grabbed my shoulder and pulled my away from him. I opened my eyes to see my dad glaring out me, face bright red and disgruntled. He was about to launch into a lecture, but I scoffed at his pathetic-ness.

“Go away, Texas,” (A/N ignore the name, okay) I said. I no longer call him my dad. “I can kiss whoever I want, and right now, I want to kiss my boyfriend. If you can’t handle that, leave.”

It wasn’t a request. I glared at him for good measure, seeing Ally behind him beaming at me approvingly, before looking back to Lance, who was smirking appreciatively.

“What?!” I grinned.

“Have I told you I love you?” He replied.

“Shut up and kiss me, you idiot,” I laughed.

He did. As we kissed, I stopped thinking about all the homophobes and pea-brained, small-minded bigots out there. Yes, there was definitely injustice in the world, and yes, it was wrong. It deserved to be stuffed into the darkest out of hell and left to rot, but for now, I didn’t care. It could topple me, but it would never knock me off my feet. Not while I have Lance. Love conquers all injustices.

Wow, 1014 words. That's a record for me. No one's gonna read this anyway, but I own nothing except the plot. Yeah, Ally is Allura but meh. Also, I don't really think Texas (or whatever his name is) and Krolia would be that horrible about Keith's sexuality cuz they're amazing people but I needed a plot okaaaay....
