Black Hearts of Steel...

Are they real?

Look at any adult

And you'll see their fault.

Their Black Hearts of Steel...

They believe they know how you feel

It is a bluff, a lie, an act

That my fellow teens is a fact.

Black Hearts of Steel

They are real...

This is what teens deal with

Parent that say talking to them is an amazing bliss

But when words are spoken

Their Black Hearts of Steel are awoken

And with it comes its bleak and unmistakable drum...

Background: When children are in foster care. The "parents" always say you can talk to them...but when you do talk to them it almost always ends up being a lecture. Maybe when you have had that parent all your life it's not as much as a big deal, but most kids in foster care are emotionally fragile or broken and it doesn't help when the person sent to take care of you is constantly getting on to you about your feelings. So, when their feelings are claimed childish or irrational, it often leaves the child hurt and leaves a dent in what could have been an amazing relationship between mother/father and daughter/son. So, I decided to put what they felt down in words, resulting in Black Hearts of Steel.

This won me a poetry competition. Heaven knows why, it sucks.
