Chapter 17- An Unforeseen Opportunity

Vermouth's POV

It has now been a week since their escape, and you can see how the knowledge that he hasn't found where they are yet, has been driving him up the wall. I expected no less from cool guy! However, there was one part that I can't seem to be able to figure out about the boss. You see, I have been delivering the updates in that case throughout this week, since, because of this case, everyone else was scared of him. In the beginning, I saw the classic reaction of wanting to kill Shinichi for the trouble he has caused him. However, this changed as the week progressed. With each day Shinichi wasn't found, the boss seemed to be happier and more excited at the thought that he wasn't located yet. Even though I am almost certain what that means, I hope I am wrong for the first time in my life.

Gin's POV
I looked down at the file Vermouth wanted to me to deliver. I quickly skimmed over it and realized why she didn't want to be the one delivering it. The file was a reminder to the boss that he has to go check on a research facility tomorrow. You see, the boss set up a system where every so often, he would check each facility, building, or any structure that the organization owns. Even though he was the one who started it, he is still always annoyed when he has to stop whatever he was working on, to, usually, fix other people's mistakes. I imagine that this time would be even worse, seeing as he has been extremely focused on finding the kid who escaped him. To put it simply, he would be become so annoyed that he will probably take it out on the unlucky soul who was charged with delivering the message. Aka, me, and I will have to deal with the boss's foul mood. Now I am not scared of much, but that thought was the scariest thing I have ever heard.

All too soon, I approached the office he has in this building. In order for no one to figure out which one was his real office, we have one for the boss in each of the organization's buildings. It was also a set up so he would always have somewhere private to work whenever he visits other buildings. The thing is, that this also means that no one in the organization knows which is his real office. He alternates between them, and they all look exactly alike. Most would assume it was this office, since it is in one of the most important locations for the organization. But the boss is smarter than that, he would put it somewhere secure, yet someplace no one would expect it to be. Where that is, not even I can figure it out.

I opened the oak door the boss had for his office. Why he has oak instead of metal, we could only guess. As I entered the room, I noticed it was brighter than it usually is. The cause was the group of computers all across the room that alternated to show all of the cameras we have under our control. Why this is unusual was because he usually has the new recruits go through the video, since it is a boring and time consuming task.

I waited a couple of minutes to see if he noticed me entered. When he said nothing, I decided to make my presence known.

"Sir"

He turned around in his chair until he was facing me, a smile gracing his lips.

"Ah, Gin, you are back already. What can I do for you?"

And this day just keeps on getting stranger. The way the officer was talking about the boss, made it seem like he was in a bad mood. But there was no sarcasm or passive aggressiveness in his words. It was like he is generally excited to hear the news I brought him.

"I was asked to deliver this message to you, reminding you that you have to exam a research facility out in the country".

"Oh yeah, I forgot that was coming up. Thank you for telling me Gin, and, if you wouldn't mind, would you like to accompany me?"
