Hello everyone, and welcome to my first book on Wattpad! Now, before we start, I want to give a HUGE shout to one of my very best friends who has helped me so much in the making of the book and many of my other book ideas! She does not have a Wattpad account at the time, but if she ever does make one, I'll post her account's name into the book. Now that that's settled, I hope you enjoy your adventures in 'The Storm Bender: A Journey's Beginning'!
Narrator's POV
It was is the middle of the night when it happened. A pair of pale feet race across a forest floor at the edge of the Earth Kingdom. Leaves are flung into the air as the feet pass before slowly floating back down to their resting spots.
The owner of the feet, a electric blue eyes, pale skinned teenage girl with long blonde hair that flailed around violently as she ran. It was a wonderful that is didn't snag onto something. The girl looked to be around 14 years of age, wearing "borrowed" earth nation clothes and no shoes nor jewelry of any kind.
Fast and heavy breaths come from the blonde's lips as she pushes herself to run farther. Faster. The girl's stamina was dwindling from the distance she had traveled.
Must keep going, The blonde thought, must escape!
Her hands were held in tight fists while her arms swung back and forth as she ran. They shook violently.
Leaves crunched and twigs snapped as the girl pushed her way through the forest, forming scrapes and scratches on her arms and legs.
The blonde was desperate and careless, not paying any mind to most of her surroundings. This included what was under foot.
Seconds later the girl gasps and she starts to fall forward. Her right foot had hooked on to a tree root that was buried under a pile of leaves. The fabric on her back rips open and in the rips's wake came two large, snow white wings.
The two wings quickly encase the girl's body, turning her into a ball of white feathers. She rolls down the hill at full speed. Anything in her path is squished, flattened, or destroyed. No trees crossed the teen's path, only bushes, brambles, sticks, and ferns. The occasional feather or two fell out, leaving a spaced out trail of white. The trail was almost impossible to track. Only the highly trained could have a slim chance.
Suddenly, the rolling stopped, but the ride was not over yet. The hill ended on a cliff. Beyond it lay a 50 foot shear drop into the deep waters below. No beach or boulders could could be seen below.
The girl seemed to hover in mid air for a second before plummeting down to the waters below. Her body gave into exhaustion as she fell and her wings unraveled with a weak groan. Her back faces the water a she plummets. Her appendages flail above her. Her wings were waving back and forth in fast subtle movements.
SPLASH!
The girl's back slams into the water with much force. Her limbs catch up the rest of her as she connects with the water before going back to as they were as she slowly sinks into the darkness below.
A few miles away a long serpent like creature pushed its way through the water around it. It had dark gray scales on the dorsal surface and light gray scales for the underbelly, the cheeks, and a stripe along its midline, a large dorsal fin with dark gray spines and light gray segments close to the creature's head, many evenly dispersed finlets along the spine, bright green eyes, and four yellow stripes along either side of its neck. This was the Unagi, a deadly creature that is native to the bay waters of Kyoshi Island. It was odd for it to be this far from the waters it calls home, as it rarely leaves them, but something was commanding the giant eel to come. Something of a strange force that no one, not even the Avatar, had encountered before.
The Unagi looms ever closer to the girl, to the point where it can make out her sinking form in the distance. Her hair was starting to cover her face a she slowly descends. Air bubbles escape her as more and more water enters her lungs. She was going to drown.
"There she is!" A female voice echoes out in the Unagi's mind. "Save her! Get her to the surface! She must not die!"
The Unagi grumbles lowly in response and speeds up its pace. The creature reaches the girl and snakes around her small form. The serpent twists to catch her with its dorsal fin. The dorsal fin catches her by her stomach. The Unagi lets out another grumble and raises her to the surface of the water. The girl wakes when at the surface. She coughs up the sea water inside her as the Unagi turns to swim away with her on its back. The blonde coughs violently before she breathes heavily, desperate to get air into her lungs. She sit up and leans against the dorsal fin of the sea serpent. Her left cheek is squished against the large, protruding fin as she looks at the horizon with her vison blurred, disoriented.
"Rest young one. Your strength will be needed for the long trek ahead." The female voice now spoke to the young blonde.
The blonde was shocked, but was too tired to react. Nothing more was said as the girl was swept away into an empty sleep.
