Aang's Pov

When she nodded her head yes I felt relieved and so happy, but it looked like she was upset and.. terrified of her answer. Like she doesn't want to be an air bender. Then after a few moments I heard her trembling voice again.

"What's your fourth question?" Her voice is so, so . . .brave. With everything she says it sounds like she is trying to hold back crying. She's strong I admire that about her. I want to ask her a question but I think it's too personal. But I have to ask her.

"How are you alive?" She looked at the ground, I'm afraid she'll say she won't answer, but she's strong.. she'll answer.

"I can't feel my legs. Can I sit down?"

I take a step forward so I can make the rocks go away then Sokka stops me and whispers,"What if she tries to run away?"

I look at him thinking then Katara speaks,"She won't."

Sokka moves his eyes from me and at Katara trusting her words and says, "Fine."

With his command I make the rocks go away and she falls but she catches herself with her hands and knees.

"Sorry, my earth bending isn't the best at these kinds of things." I explained as she was brushing her hands and knees off not responding.

"So what happened? How did you survive?" I asked again. She was sitting on the ground looking at her hands. Maybe it will be easier for her to speak if she had something to sit on? I shift my feet making five tree stump looking seats for us to sit on. I made the one for her underneath her. She yelped it startling her.

She took a deep breath. "You could've given me a warning."

I shrugged,"Sorry. Are you okay?"

She glanced at me coldly,"I'm fine. . . . You still want me to answer?" She look away from her hands and turned to me.

"Yes" then she took a deep breath and began.

Flash back as she is telling the story

This is the story my father has told me. My grandfather was an air nomad and, he didn't send my father to a temple because my grandmother didn't want to separate with my his son and his sister. . .they loved them too much. They were going to send them at a older age. They had a happy family, my father sensed something was wrong, his father was always on alert he was always looking over his shoulder. My father approached his father and asked him what was the matter.

"What's the matter father?" he said with scared worried eyes.

"Nothing Ketu"

"Are you sure?" He looked back at his worried eight-year-old son.

"No I'm not, something bad is happening"

"What? What's wrong?"

"Firenation. I hear that they are wiping out people. . . air benders"

"Why are they doing that?"

His father sighed,"I don't know son."

"Are you sure? Or are people saying that just to scare us?"

"I saw a flyer. I heard the reason why is because the avatar died which means he is in his next life."

"I don't get it"

"Every time the avatar dies he or she is born into the next cycle. His past life was in the fire nation which means his next is-"

"Air nation? So they are getting rid of our people because the avatar is an airbender?"
