I wake up with dry tears on my face. I smile at my dream until all of reality comes crashing back down on me like a two-ton bull falling on me and crushing my ribs under the pressure.

I get up and put on my dressing gown and walk down to join my parents for breakfast. "Good morning Virgil," Mother says.

"Morning," I grumble sitting down.

"Excuse me, young man?" Father says looking at me waiting.

"Good morning Mother, Father," I say calling Patton over. Father nods and begins to eat. Patton comes over and serves my dish and fills my glass with milk. "Thank you," I say starting to eat my food.

After breakfast, I head to my room and pull out my jumper, dungarees, and a pair of trainers. I go to the washroom and clean up and change.

I go downstairs and wait by the door for Roman. He comes in and leads me to our treehouse in the forest. "How are you today Virge?" He asks pulling me through the hatch.

I sit with him. "I'm okay but I have a question for you," I say getting slightly nervous.

"What is that?" He asks noticing my nervousness and he grabs my hand.

"Hypothetically if someone was five years older than their true love do you think they should still be together?" I ask shaking slightly.

"Virgil I believe if it's true love nothing can get in the way," He says letting my hand go.

"Even if one was a royal?" I ask.

"Yes."

"Even if they were the same sex?" I ask getting more nervous.

"Yes say it was...me and you and we were meant to be I think we would find a way to be together. Even though we'll never be meant to be," Roman says chuckling.

I look down. "Yeah...never." Once he said that my heart broke and I tried my best to hold the tears in. He ruined my hope for the future.

"Virgil are you okay?" He asks wrapping his arm around my shoulders. I nod. "Okay if you need to talk just talk to me." I nod again.

We sit like that in silence for a few minutes until I feel something heavy on my head and I realize Roman fell asleep. I carefully lean into his chest and start falling into a light slumber.

"I will always protect you, Virgil, I love you." I hear and my eyes snap open I look at Roman and remember he's asleep so he mustn't mean it. I go back to sleep.

"Virgil?" I hear Roman whisper to me and I wake up to him standing over me.

"What?" I moan closing my eyes. I feel a hand in mine and he pulls me up. "Ugh, Roman I don't want to get up." When I stand up I get dizzy and fall into him.

He catches me. "Careful," He says chuckling standing me back up.

"Thanks," I say climbing down the treehouse. He follows behind.

"Where are you going?" He says following me. I ignore him and just keep walking picking up the pace. He grabs my arm and pulls me to face him. "Virgil!" He snaps. "Why are you ignoring me?"

I pull away and start walking towards the castle again. "I am not ignoring you."

He speeds up towards me. "Then why are you running away from me?"

I keep walking. "I want to be left alone every once in a while," I snap at him.

He is walking by me now. "Fine why don't you like me anymore?" He yells. "What'd I do?"

"Nothing," I say feeling a little guilty. He huffs and storms off. I stop and watch him walk off contemplating if I should go after him.

"Prince Virgil the king needs to see you," A guard says before I can go after Roman. I nod and head inside.

I walk into Fathers office. He waves me over and gestures for me to sit down. "Mother told me some interesting things," He starts. "She told me you are smitten for Roman."

I open my mouth to talk but can't get any words to come out. I try again. I look down. "I don't want you to see him again," He says.

I look up quickly. "What? No, you can't do this to me!" I yell.

He looks at me angerly. "I can do what I want I am your father and I cannot let my son become a homosexual. So no more seeing Roman you are dismissed," He says before I can retaliate.

I stomp out slamming his door. I run to my room and grab my more 'commoner' looking clothes and change. I sneak out the window and into town.

I run to my grandparent's house and knock on the door. My grandmother answers the door. "Virgil, what are you doing here?" She asks ushering me in.

I walk in. "Can I stay here for a while Father is being quite unbearable."

She smiles. "Of course do your parents know where you are?" She asks going into the kitchen.

I follow her. "Yes, they do," I lie.

"Well then go wash up and get ready for dinner we're having goose," She says ruffling my hair. I smile and go to the washroom.
