It's been six months and it was time for our wedding. I was getting ready my best man, Roman, at my side. I was tying my bowtie trying to not cry. I was shaking so much I couldn't tie it. "Here I got it," Roman says tying it for me.
"Thank you," I say sighing. "I don't want to do this," I state pushing my hair back into my face.
Roman pushes it out of my eyes and smiles at me putting his hands on my shoulders. "I know but it'll be okay, I promise." He looks into my eyes looking like he's lost.
I can't help but smile back at him. "I want to fall in love," I say feeling a gravitational pull pulling me towards him.
"You WILL fall in love one day, I'll make sure of it." He says turning away from and the pulling force stops.
I look away scratching the back of my neck. I hear a knock at the door and awkwardly walk to the door. I open it and it's Patton. "Hey, you have to go down the aisle sir," He says looking sadly at me. I start breaking down and Patton wraps me in a hug. "Hey, hey shhh it's okay, it'll be okay." He says rubbing my back.
"I don't want to marry her Patt!" I scream while tears stream down my face. "I want to marry the man I love!"
"I know kiddo, I know," He says rocking me.
"Why won't he love me?! Why won't they let me love him?!" I say ranting as he's shushing me.
"I bet he loves you, Virgil, you're a great guy no one can't love you. I'm sorry they won't let you marry him but that doesn't mean you can't love him because you love him right?" Patton asks quietly.
I look up at him and smile slightly. "Well..." I sniff. "I do love him but he doesn't love me," I said shaking.
I feel a set of hands rest on my shoulders. I turn around and jump towards him and he picks me up. I wrap my legs around his waist and my arms around his neck and bury my head in the crook of his neck.
We stand there like that for a few minutes. I pull my head back and look at Roman. "Can I tell you something?"
He hesitantly nods. "Of course," He says smiling at me.
"The man I'm in love with is you," I said hopping out of his arms and walking to the mirror, wiping my face and walk out the door.
As I'm walking towards the hall I fix my hair. I start walking down the aisle with my aunt by my side. "I'm so proud of you Virgey."
"Thanks, Auntie and thanks for taking Mother's place," I say as she walks to her seat.
Roman and Abigail's sister walk down the aisle, then Sage and her other sister and so on until Abigail and her dad walked down. She looked beautiful in her light purple ball gown. My suit had dark purple accents here and there.
Abigail smiles sadly at me, I guess she noticed the puffy redness around my eyes.
The priest smiles and begins, "Dearly Beloved, we are gathered here today in the presence of these witnesses, to join Prince Virgil and Princess Abigail in matrimony commended to be honorable among all; and therefore is not to be entered into lightly but reverently, passionately, lovingly and solemnly. Into this - these two persons present now come to be joined. If any person can show just cause why they may not be joined together - let them speak now or forever hold their peace."
I look around and no one says a word. I start sweating wanting at least one person to speak against this marriage. When I felt I lost hope a quiet, sweet voice rings out. "I object." I look around to see who said it. It was Patton.
"No, you can't object you're a servant!" My father calls out to him dismissing him. I look at my father angerly.
Then I hear it. The strong voice that seems too anxious to speak. "I object."
I look back to see Roman speaking now. He walks into the middle of the aisle. "I'm sorry to ruin this for you, King," He says looking at my father. "But Virgil can't and won't ever love Abigail. He's homosexual and he's in love with a man. That man is me." The crowd gasps. Roman walks up to me and grabs my hand then looks at the crowd. "And I love him too." He looks back at me. "I love you, Virgil."
