When I get inside after Roman brought me home I immediately get yelled at. "Virgil! I thought no, no I KNOW we raised you better than this! What in the hell possessed you to run off like that?!" He yells and before I can answer he speaks again. "This is not how a prince behaves! You are such a disgrace go to bed!"
I storm off but before I head upstairs I turn around. "I never asked to be a dumb prince!" I yell feeling tears sting my eyes and I run to my room.
I lay in my bed not bothering to change. I hear a knock at my door. "Go away!" I yell covering my head with my blanket.
I hear someone open and close the door and walk towards me. Someone pulls the blanket off my head. "Why'd you tell him I liked Roman?!" I snap at Mother.
"He needs to know. You shouldn't keep secrets from him," She says calmly.
"I don't care! I'm homosexual and that won't change! He won't accept me and I don't want to be here I want to be with someone who'll let me love who I love!" I scream covering my head again.
She pats my back and leaves. I hear the door open and close again I groan. "Get. Out." I hear the person with soft footsteps walk slowly to my bed and sit on it.
"Prince Virgil." I hear a boys voice say. "What is troubling you I may be able to help." I pull the blanket off my head and see the servant boy Patton.
I stare at him for a while then sit up. "How?" I asked pulling my feet out and over the side of the bed to be seated next to him.
He smiles. "I couldn't help but bear the conversation between you and your father," He begins and he places a hand on my shoulder. "Or when you yelled at your mother. You are homosexual correct?" He asks looking into my eyes to find any indication of me lying.
I nod. "Yes I am," I say looking back into his eyes feeling nothing I feel when I look into Roman's but I feel safe with him I'm not nervous like I am around other people.
"Well I am guessing the rules are a prince cannot marry a prince and a princess cannot marry a princess am I correct?"
"We mustn't marry any commoners and we mustn't marry anyone of the same sex," I repeat my mother's word my heart feeling like it's going to melt away every day I hear that.
"Wait," Patton begins. "If you mustn't marry a commoner how did your father marry your mother?" He asks moving his hand across both my shoulders in a side hug.
"I don't know I haven't dared to ask," I say leaning into his touch. "Patton you're quite nice when I become king I'll make sure you'll have a more freeing job in the kingdom," I ramble.
He smiles. "Prince Virgil if I may so rudely ask who is the boy that has stolen your heart?"
I smile picturing Roman standing with his father's sword in the air in a position like a glorious knight. "Roman," I say sighing sounding like a lovesick teenage girl.
"Your knight? Isn't he seventeen? Five years older than you?" Patton asks laughing at my sigh.
"Yeah but I talked to him and asked if age mattered to him, he said no, " I say leaning away from Patton hug.
"Well is he homosexual? Have you asked?" Patton asks pulling his hand back to his side.
"Hypothetically, yes," I say looking down at my hands. "What time is it?"
Patton moves to the window and looks up at the sky. "Ten," He says walking towards the door and turning back. "Goodnight," He says smiling and walking out.
I wave and go pick out some sleeping garments and put them on. I crawl into bed and slowly drift off to a restless night sleep.
Dream
Roman and I are in our treehouse talking about school starting again soon. "I don't want to go!" He says in a whiny voice.I smile at him. "I don't want to either. I don't want to leave you," I say resting my head onto his shoulder.
He pulls me up and sets me on his lap. I smile awkwardly at him and I get entranced looking into his eyes. He starts leaning in but I stay there not moving I'm frozen. He stops inches from my face looks from my lips to my eyes and I slightly nod.
He leans in the rest of the way connecting our lips. I hesitate for a minute and he's about to pull away but I start kissing back before he could move away.
We stay like that for a while him having dominance. We finally pull away. He runs his hands up under my jumper. I smile and pull his jumper over his head.
He moves his hands down to my trousers after pulling my jumper off as well. He begins unbuttoning my trousers.
End of DreamI suddenly wake up and I feel wetness under me. I must've wet the bed I haven't done that in ages. I quickly grab some clothes and head to the washroom getting cleaned and changed.
I head to the dining hall and sit with my parents. "Mother I think I have wet the bed last night." She nods and waves a servant over. They head upstairs and towards my bedroom.
After breakfast, I head to the front to wait on Roman. Forgetting all about yesterday. "Virgil." I look over and see my father.
"Yes, Father?" I ask standing and facing him.
"You aren't allowed to see Roman remember?" He says getting ready to head away.
"What if I forget the feelings I have and start liking princesses then can I?" I ask pleadingly.
He seems to consider this. "Yes, I suppose that would work. Take Mare and ride to Roman's cottage he should be there, you can deliver the news to him yourself," Father says walking off.
I run out to the stables and saddle Mare. I hop on her and she starts running at my command. I direct her to Roman's. When we get there I tie her next to their steeds and give her a bucket of water to drink.
I go to the cottage door and knock. Roman soon comes out and looks at me with a shocked expression on his face. "What're you doing here? Are you running away again?" He grabs my wrist and I wince he remembers and grabs my arm. "I am taking you back home."
I chuckle pulling away from him. "Actually I'm bringing you home."
He looks at me confused. "No your father-"
I cut him off. "My father sent me here to retrieve you I just had to make some promises to be able to get you." He nods and I hop on Mare after I untie her. He hops on after me and grabs onto my waist and I feel my heart skip a beat.
We ride to the castle quietly and as slow as I could make it so I could keep this feeling. When we arrive at the castle I feel a little disappointed but I quickly unsaddle Mare and we head to the treehouse.
